http://www.mfa.gov.kp/en/press-statement-by-im-chon-il-vice-minister-for-russian-affairs-ministry-of-foreign-affairs-of-the-dprk/Today is a significant day marking the 2nd anniversary of the first historic meeting and talks between Comrade Kim Jong Un, President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and H.E. President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

Comrade Kim Jong Un, President of the State Affairs of the DPRK had the first historic meeting and talks with H.E. President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin while staying in Vladivostok, a beautiful port city of the Russian Federation from 24th to 26th April, 2019. During this time, he had formed good personal relations with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and laid a cornerstone of further development of the long-standing and traditional ties of friendship between the DPRK and Russia as required by the new era.

At the DPRK-Russia summit meeting and talks, the two supreme leaders expressed their stand and commitment to promote the mutual understanding, trust, friendship and cooperation and to develop the DPRK-Russia relations on a more secure basis, which are oriented towards the new century. They also agreed on concrete directions and steps to open up a new heyday in the development of DPRK-Russia relations by increasing the high-level visits and revitalizing cooperation, exchanges and mutually beneficial economic and trade relations in all fields.

They also had an in-depth discussion to explore ways for promoting the strategic communications and tactical collaborations in the course of ensuring peace and security on the Korean peninsula and in the rest of the region.

In the last two years, both sides have sought mutual contacts and collaborations in all fields of politics, the economy and culture to put into practice the agreements reached at the DPRK-Russia summit meeting, even in the face of many difficulties and challenges caused by volatile international situation and unexpected global health crisis.

The DPRK and Russia are in close cooperation to root out the cause of war and tension and to ensure peace and security on the Korean peninsula and in the region of northeast Asia. Close cooperation is also made in the international arena to oppose unilateralism, arbitrariness, interference into the internal affairs of the other and double standard and to establish a world order which is just and fair.

Today, the DPRK-Russia relations are in their steady development onto a higher stage in the interests of the peoples of two countries, withstanding any external challenge and difficulty.

We hope that the Russian people, our friendly neighbour, would score successes in realizing its objective to build a powerful Russia by tiding over global health crisis at an earliest date and achieving a stable and sustainable socio-political and economic development.

It is the firm stand of the DPRK government to continue to strengthen and develop the strategic and traditional relations of friendship between the DPRK and Russia on a new level as required by the new century.

I am assured that the friendly relations between the DPRK and Russia would continue to strengthen and develop onto a higher stage under the close attentions of the two supreme leaders and as has been intended and desired by the two peoples.
