Some people have claimed that the British government’s ‘ One Britain One Nation’ song is ‘north Korean style ‘ or that ‘ Britain is North Korea ‘ , which equates the DPRK with Britain , a capitalist state . Earlier this year some people made comparisons between the British monarchy and the DPRK . Such comparisons are politically illiterate and betray a complete lack of understanding .
It is not the remit of KFA UK to comment on the rights and wrongs of the OBON or whether as some claim it represents fascism . However, we cannot stand by and allow empty-headed political illiterates to slander People’s Korea with cheap jibes and sneers .
The DPRK is a socialist country , it is based on the social and collective ownership of the means of production , distribution and exchange . The people are the masters of everything . There cannot be a comparison between the DPRK and any capitalist country anywhere in the world . It’s system is different .
The DPRK is not a monarchy . Marshal KIM JONG UN is the elected head of state and was elected as general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea . Under a monarchy the head of state is not elected .
Article 101 of the 'Socialist Constitution of the DPRK states
"The Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is elected at the Supreme People’s Assembly ' and article 102 says that
"The term of office of the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is the same as that of the Supreme People’s Assembly.'
This is really quite different from Queen Elizabeth's role and position .
Also ' The Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is accountable to the Supreme People’s Assembly ' according to article 106 of the DPRK Socialist Constitution
Of course it is true that the DPRK values its independence and has a strong independent spirit based on the Juche idea . It does not want to be enslaved by anyone nor does it want to conquer anyone.
In People’s Korea there is genuine unity and solidarity . There are no class and social conflicts . Everyone has a real stake in society .
In People’s Korea you have socialist patriotism which is based on pride in and love for their socialist country which is run for the people and for the benefit of the people . The Korean people valued every blade of grass in their socialist country . They believe in the superiority of their socialist system . These feelings come from the hearts of the Korean people.It cannot be compared to illusory patriotism .
We reject those cynics who try to equate People’s Korea with capitalist countries !
