The great leader comrade KIM JONG Il started working at the Central Committee of the Workers ‘ Party of Korea on the 19th of June , some 57 years ago .
From the start comrade KIM JONG IL worked so hard to forge a deep organic relationship between the Workers’ Party of Korea and the people ; to turn the party and the people into an integral harmonious whole .
This was not as easy as it might sound to some people . In many socialist countries bureaucracy within the ruling party developed causing problems in the construction of socialism and ultimately causing the frustration of socialism . In some ruling parties of the socialist camp party cadres were only interested in cars , money and villas . Non ruling communist parties in some countries were often remote and aloof from the masses and with little working class support .
Comrade KIM JONG IL strongly opposed bureaucracy and privilege from the beginning. He had actually taken part in the reconstruction of Pyongyang and worked in a machinery factory .When he started work at the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea . He declined to have his own separate office . His style of work was always humble and modest . He dressed in simple clothes just like an ordinary worker.
It was always stressed by comrade KIM JONG IL that the Workers Party of Korea should have a mass foundation . In 1969 he pointed out that “ Cementing the foundations of our Party is a matter of particular importance today , because we are making the revolution in difficult circumstances ‘ ( KIM JONG IL ‘ On Firmly Consolidating the Party’s Organisational and Ideological Foundations ‘ ) .
During the course of his work at the Central Committee comrade KIM JONG IL ensured that the unity between the party and people was cemented firmly . Under his guidance the Party was not only built up as the leading party , the general staff of the revolution but as a motherly party which loved the people and took care of their lives. He exerted efforts to make sure that WPK improved the living standards of the people . Under his guidance many construction projects took place . Whole new streets in the centre of Pyongyang came into being such as Changgwang Street. .
He said that party officials should be servants of the people . He ceaselessly gave on- spot guidance to all sectors such as industry , agriculture , culture and the military .The popular , people-orientated style work that had been laid down by President KIM IL SUNG was continued and developed in depth by comrade KIM JONG IL .Comrade KIM JONG IL always saw it to that the deep roots of the WPK were nourished.
It is thanks to the work of comrade KIM JONG IL in guiding the WPK became not only a party that was big in terms of numerical strength but was in a Party with members from all walks of life not a party of the elite but a party which had waitresses , shopworkers , road sweepers , drivers as well as academics , intellectuals , generals and ministers .
Because the WPK under the guidance of comrade KIM JONG IL consolidated and developed its mass foundation , it was able to withstand the winds of anti-socialism which blew across the world after the frustration of socialism in the USSR .
Today the work of comrade KIM JONG IL in guiding the party is carried forward by dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN who is developing the people-orientated lines and policies in depth.
