Japanese Reactionaries' Scheme to Stifle Democratic National Education of Korean Residents Condemned

Pyongyang, February 7 (KCNA) -- A spokesman of the Committee for Aiding Overseas Compatriots of Korea Monday issued a statement condemning the Japanese authorities for their base political suppression and inhumane actions to violate the democratic national rights of Korean residents in Japan.
According to the statement, the Osaka District Court of Japan on Jan. 26 made a decision of turning down the suit filed by the Osaka Korean School, one of the institutions for national education of Korean residents in Japan, in September 2012 in defense of the Korean residents' right to democratic national education.
As far as the suit is concerned, it reflected the just voices of the above-said institution and all the Korean residents in Japan rejecting the unjust decision made by the Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City authorities in March 2012 to unilaterally suspend the payment of subsidies for education which had been made since 1974.
The court's unjust decision reveals Japan's persistent chauvinist policy and vicious hostile policy towards the DPRK and the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, the statement said, adding:
Japan has moral and legal responsibility to guarantee the rights of Korean residents to national education in the light of the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists in the past and its domestic law.
However, the Japanese reactionaries have desperately worked to suppress and stamp out Koreans' national education out of their extreme evil intention and political prejudices.
Even at this moment, violence and threat to obliterate the said education of the Korean residents are occurring in an unbroken chain and all sorts of pressure and blackmail against the Korean schools are now being perpetrated in a more sinister and cunning way in Japan where the ultra-rightist conservative forces are ruling the roost.
The right to national education is an important issue related to the human rights of the Korean residents in Japan, and it is a blatant challenge to international justice to violate this right.
The Japanese authorities should stop at once the nasty and vicious actions to abuse the issue of national education of the Koreans in Japan as a political and diplomatic bargaining before painting their country as a "law-governed state", the statement urged. -0-
