Reflections on the 72nd Anniversary of the Foundation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea-special article by Dr Dermot Hudson

Tomorrow 9th of September will the 72nd anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) . The DPRK is a unique, people-centred socialist state based on the Juche idea .

One of the reasons why the imperialists and their mainstream media hate the DPRK so much and slander and vilify it day after day , hour after hour , is that is the only socialist state to make it to its 72nd anniversary ; others fell by the wayside .The secret of the DPRK's resilience and durability is the Juche idea , which is based on the central core principle that man is the master and stipulates independence in politics , self-sufficiency in the economy and self-reliance in defence . Indeed the DPRK is the most independent country in the world , taking orders from no one , it does not have foreign troops stationed on its soil , it is not a member of the IMF , WTO , World Bank , APEC or EU .

Because the DPRK has such solid independence it was able to work its own Juche-orientated lines and policies and build socialism in its own way becoming well known as a model country of socialism .  Juche socialism is people-centred socialism . The DPRK provides free education , free medical care , virtually free housing and abolished taxation in 1974.

Another reason for the DPRK's invincibility is single-hearted unity . Westerners cannot understand this and fear it , calling it names like 'totalitarian ' . The single-hearted unity of the leader , Party and masses is the DPRK's secret weapon more powerful than a 100 or a 1000 nuclear weapons !.

The strength of the DPRK is also due to the fact that it was led by by great leaders . It was founded by the great leader President KIM IL SUNG and his leadership was continued by chairman KIM JONG IL . Today Marshal KIM JONG UN defends and carries forward the ideas and lines of President KIM IL SUNG and Chairman KIM JONG IL.

I was privileged to twice visit the DPRK at the time of its foundation anniversary . The first time was in September 2016 which proved to be a most exciting visit . On the day that I arrived the DPRK had just conducted a test of road launched medium range ballistic missiles . On September 9th itself the DPRK conducted its 5th nuclear test . I remember visiting the Pongwha Art Theatre that day . As we were going up the stairs my guide turned and said to me softly ' this morning we successfully conducted the nuclear warhead test ' . The next day there were army -people rallies to celebrate and support the nuclear test.

In September 2018 I visited the DPRK leading the delegation of the British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea and UK KFA .We were able to witness first hand the single hearted unity of the Korean people around the leader, the Workers' Party and the Juche idea by seeing the military and civilian parade , the torch light parade and the mass game "Glorious country " . There is no doubt that the imperialists are trying to destroy this unity but have failed to do so.

The grand military parade held on September 9th and the torchlight parade were truly fantastic , totally out of this world .It always great to see a DPRK military parade , this was my 5th one . I was impressed by the incredible discipline and precision shown by the KPA troops .It was great to see the tanks of the KPA thundering by with the flags of the DPRK , the Worker's Party of Korea and Supreme Commander proudly fluttering on them . Revolutionary songs such as 'We Follow Only You ' and 'Peace is Our Bayonet ' were played . I also recognised the theme tune of the film 'Order 027' when the KPA special forces marched past.

Seeing the civilian mass demonstration after the military parade , we saw slogans such as "Forward along the road of socialism ", "Lets us live our own way " and " Long live the revolutionary spirit of Mt Paektu " which implicitly rejected "reform " and " opening up " and were basically anti -revisionist and rejected big power chauvinism. Generally the emphasis in the DPRK is on ideology this was evidenced in a number of ways such as teams of housewives militantly waving and swirling red flags to encourage people to hit higher production targets.

. Before our visit the imperialist media have propagandised about drought , "crop failure' , 'famine' and 'mass starvation ' etc but it looked like an abundant harvest to me . During the visit as on my 14 previous visits I saw no homeless people on the streets , no one begging , no drug addicts or alcoholics or gang violence . Some of the delegation pointed out that there are no lumpens in Pyongyang and that the DPRK is a very disciplined society .eople on the delegation agreed that Britain is a broken society whereas the DPRK is not.

Recalling this visits I am confident .that the DPRK will celebrate its 72nd founding anniversary with pride and will march on wards to final victory !
