The Association for the Study of Songun Politics UK and the Juche Idea Study Group of England proudly issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the publication of "Giving Priority to Ideological Work Is Essential for Accomplishing Socialism" by the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL ;
Although 20 years have passed since the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL published the work " Giving Priority to Ideological Work Is Essential for Accomplishing Socialism it seems like only yesterday .
The work correctly shows that in order to build socialism successfully and thwart all attempts by reactionaries and class enemies to derail the onward march of socialist construction , then priority , first of all, must be given to ideological work . As the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL points out in the work ;"
The most
serious lesson of the collapse of socialism in several countries is
that the corruption of socialism begins with ideological corruption,
and that a break-down on the ideological front results in the
crumbling of all socialism’s fronts and ends in the total ruin of
socialism.
This shows the profoundly perceptive insight of the great leader comrade
KIM JONG IL into the collapse of socialism in a number of countries . The frustration begins with the corruption of the ideological front which undermines all other areas and eventually extinguishes or frustrates socialism . This lesson was shown by the history of a number of socialist countries. In the Soviet Union the CPSU moved to the right after its 20th congress and downplayed the role of ideology , during the three decades after that congress socialism crumbled and was frustrated in the Soviet Union
. Ideology determines everything. Socialism is based on ideology whereas capitalism is based on money . As the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL says
"Ideological consciousness plays the decisive role in human activity. Because it reflects man’s demands and interests, ideological consciousness governs all his activities and serves as the prime mover which propels him to struggle to transform the world"
This is very true indeed and even more true of socialist society which is based on the independence and creativity of the masses rather than people being forced to work through fear of losing their livelihood.
The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL rightly warns against revived elements of the old capitalist system under socialism and points out that that the revolution must be continued to eliminate backward ideas and culture :
"However, ideological, technological and cultural backwardness handed down from the old society and various other related vestiges remain for a historical period. These serve as a hotbed for the growth of non-socialist ideological elements. To solidly arm all members of socialist society with socialist ideology, we must preserve socialist ownership. We must steadily consolidate and develop socialist economic relations, and gradually overcome the vestiges of the old society which remain in socio-economic relations and many other areas of social life.
If remnants of old society in socialist society are encouraged to grow, or capitalist economic management methods are introduced into socialist economic management, or worse still, if capitalist ownership is revived by encroaching upon socialist ownership, this will result in the economic, material basis of socialist ideology being pulled down, and conditions created for the growth of individualism, selfishness and other bourgeois ideas.
This is a brilliant piece of analysis which shows that it is very important for a socialist state to keep tp to the principle of socialist ownership of the means of production and continually carry out the ideological, cultural and technical revolutions. The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL also criticises revisionism and glasnost in the work as well as warning against the ideological and cultural infiltration of imperialism .
Although the work was published some 20 years it is as relevant now as when it was published as it
gives absolutely correct answers to the question of ideological work under socialism and shows the way to build socialism in confrontation with imperialism.
We highly commend this work and believe it should be studied by all those who hope for a socialist society.
