Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace

The Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace is a comprehensive extracurricular educational base for schoolchildren.

The Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace constructed in May Juche 78(1989) is the specific type grand monumental edifice reflecting mother’s wide bosom that welcomes children.

President Kim Il Sung saw the schoolchildren’s New Year performance here every year and wished the happy future of them.

In May Juche 103(2014), respected Marshal Kim Jong Un set forth the task to reconstruct the palace which was built thanks to President Kim Il Sung’s and leader Kim Jong Il’s love for posterity as required by the new century.

True to the noble intention of respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, the builders refurbished the inside and outside of the palace in a short period of time.

Its total floor space is about 105 000m².

The palace covers the total area of the main building about 214 000m².

The ten-storey main building of the palace includes science and art buildings.

In the science building are distributed the rooms for computer and physics.

Built in a distinctive style on the ground floor of science building are the hall of science with a large relief map of Korea and a model of blasting carrier rocket Unha-3.

In the building of the arts are those for embroidery, calligraphy, kayagum, accordion, vocal and other art groups, and general practice halls of national musical instruments and electronic band according to their hobbies and aptitudes.

The 2 000-seat theatre is designed to stage any art performance and the indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and other sports facilities have undergone a facelift.

Sporting ground and automobile driving practice ground outside the palace have also been rebuilt to go well with the surroundings together with dormitory capable of 1 000 students.

5 000 students wage extracurricular groups activities in all kinds of 140 group rooms and training grounds which were divided by subjects, events and fields.

Children of common working people give full play to their faculties free of charge in schoolchildren’s palaces of the DPRK the universal 12-year compulsory education is introduced.

In December Juche 104(2015), going round the newly refurnished palace, respected Marshal Kim Jong Un said that the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace was the children’s palace which WPK’s outlook to the rising generation have been reflected.

And he stressed that the Party and state should conduct steadily the work for supplying the better and more excellent condition for life and environment to schoolchildren.

Today in the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s Palace the song “We envy nothing in the world” that Korean blessed schoolchildren sang is echoing more loudly.
