Inevitable Passage
Of late, the south Korean National Assembly passed through amendment of bill on inter-Korean relations. The opposition parties including the People’s Power Party had desperate bid to block the passage of the bill. But the bill enacted at the parliament. The amendment stipulates those who violate inter-Korean agreement such as leaflet-scattering against north Korea face up to three years imprisonment or a fine of 30 million won or less. The amendment of the bill is a step to safeguard resident living near the military demarcation line and it should be enforced at an earlier date, the south Korean media commented. The south Korean people from all walks of life said that the passage of amended bill is to ensure security of the residents and peace of the Korean Peninsula. They demanded the suspension of leaflet-scattering against north Korea. The opposition parties come under public criticism for their demand of withdrawal of the bill. The US and western nations have announce their stand in opposition to the bill. It is a challenge to the south Koreans who are desirous of peace and reunification. The AINDF hopes the world progressives and organizations would raise their voices against hostile elements which have stood opposed to the passage of the bill. |
