It is with grave concern that the Staffordshire Branch of the UK KFA views the decision to launch the massive military exercises "Foal Eagle And Key Resolve" on the territory of south Korea by the United Sates and the south Korean armed forces. These military manoeuvres in question will last from March 1st to March 17th, will involve about 200,00 troops from the US, south Korea and other nations. Also participating in these war games are the US nuclear aircraft carriers "Ronald Reagan" and "Carl Vinson", nuclear submarines, stealth fighters and nuclear capable bombers.
The utterly provocative nature of the "Foal Eagle & Key Resolve" military exercises is extremely clear to any observer. It has been openly announced by the US command in south Korea, that the aim of the war games in question, is to put into operation, a 4D attack plan against targets and assets in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. A major part of the "Foal Eagle & Key Resolve" is to test the THAAD system in the conditions of wartime. By it very existence, the THAAD system is a provocation against the DPRK and other countries in the North East Asian region and is an integral part of a first nuclear strike by the US Imperialists. The March 2017 military drills assume an ever growing danger, as the US has introduced six millions tons of ammunition and hardware into south Korea. As part of the "Foal Eagle & Key Resolve" exercise, the US military has practiced the procedure of evacuation of US civilians from south Korea, thus creating a climate of fear and intimidation.
These unprecedentedly large military exercises conducted by the US on the Korean peninsula must be seen in the context of comments made by K.T. McFarland, the Deputy National Security Advisor in "The Wall Street Journal". McFarland suggested the possibility of an invasion of the DPRK or even a limited nuclear attack upon the northern half of Korea. This kind of speculation by US warmongers is the path to towards conflict in Korea and even a global conflagration. The Trump Administration must realise that a second Korean war will not be a reality TV show, but would be instead a grim situation for the US and its satellites. The people of the DPRK will defend their socialism and independence, until the potential aggressors are beaten back.
On many occasions the Government of the DPRK has called for peace and dialogue on the Korean peninsula. The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea has consistently striven for a peace treaty with the United States and the ending of the state of confrontations between the two countries. If Donald Trump is seriously about a new start in the US foreign policy, then his administration must stop such provocations as "Foal Eagle And Key Resolve" and come around to the negotiating table with the DPRK. The DPRK wants peaceful and independent reunification of the Korean peninsula, and not war and division. Our Staffordshire KFA Branch points out it is the United States that has 1,000 nuclear weapons in south Korea and about 40,000 troops stationed in the south of Korea.
The Staffordshire Branch of the UK KFA urges all Anti-imperialists and Peace campaigners, Trade Unionists and Socialists to rally for the cause of peace and internationalism, and halt the aggressive "Foal Eagle/Key Resolve" military exercises in south Korea. We call on people of goodwill to stop the war in Korea and work for solidarity with the Korean people in their just cause of peace and national reunification!!
