From the olden times, it has been said that the Korean chima and jogori have their charm of “sangbakhahu” in their external characteristics which means that small and short jogori, in contrast to long and wide chima gives glamorous feeling, thus making themselves sit very well on Korean women.
Despite the big difference in lengths of chima and jogori, they give harmonious and well-balanced feeling. That is because the two wide sleeves, forming curved lines and two long breast ties complement the area and weight of jogori.
One of the important external characteristics of chima and jogori is that contrary to the suit which highlights the shape of the body, they promote the outlines of clothes and emphasize the affluent and slim natural beauty in perfect harmony of the collar line, collar-strip line and breast tie line with the outlines.
Korean chima and jogori feature the unique beauty of the Korean national costume thanks to the color decorations depending on different seasons.
The Korean women are fond of sound, vivid, pure and soft beauty from the olden times. In spring, they liked to wear chima and jogori of light and bright colors such as light pink, grass green, light purple and yellow to go well with the natural environment in which sprouts come to life and go green. In hot summer, they enjoyed chima and jogori of white and light blue that give cool feeling and chose colors that give fresh feelings as those of bellflowers and wild asters or rich colors as yellowish brown or red in autumn when all the kinds of cereals and fruits come to maturity.
In cold winter, they usually wore chima and jogori of thick and mild colors that give warm feelings.
Due to such unique styles and color decorations, the Korean chima and jogori are symbolic Korean national costumes depicting the emotions, hobbies and charms of the Korean nation who love the simplicity, elegance and neatness.
