ASSPUK and BGSJI on the 30th anniversary of the historic Pyongyang Declaration

 The Association For the Study of Songun Politics UK(ASSPUK) and the  British Group for the Study of the  Juche Idea(BGSJI) issued a joint statment on the 30th anniversary of the Pyongyang Declaration ;

30 years ago at the initative of the Workers Party of Korea (WPK)led by the great leader President KIM IL SUNG and the great leader Chairman KIM JONG IL , a number of communist and workers parties visiting Pyongyang for the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the birth of President KIM IL SUNG decided to adopt the Pyongyang Declaration '"Let Us Defend and Advance the Cause of Socialism" . The declaration was initially signed  by 70 communist and workers parties , including 48 party leaders . The declaration stated as follows ' The representatives of political parties from different countries of the world who are striving for the victory of socialism publish this declaration with a firm conviction to defend and advance the socialist cause.

Ours is an era of independence and the socialist cause is a sacred one aimed at realising the independence of the popular masses.

Socialism suffered a setback in some countries in recent years. As a consequence of this, the imperialists and reactionaries are claiming that socialism has ‘come to an end’. This is nothing but a sophistry to beautify and embellish capitalism and patronise the old order.

The setback of socialism and the revival of capitalism in some countries is causing a great loss to the achievement of the socialist cause, but it can never be interpreted as the denial of the superiority of socialism and of the reactionary character or capitalism.

Socialism has long been the ideal of mankind and it represents the future of mankind."

At the time of the publication of the 'Pyongyang Declaration ' the international communist movement and socialist forces were in a state of disillusioment , pessimism and confusion after the frustation of socialism in the USSR and the socialist countries . Some communist and workers' parties either disappeared or turned themselves into social democratic parties . Many progressive were in despair . The 'Pyongyang Declaration ' was an extremely positive , daring and militant intitative by the WPK  and also a very timely and fortitous one . Only the WPK among the ruling parties of the socialist countries took such a righteous action to defend and advance socialism . This showed that under the banner of the Juche idea , the WPK upheld revolutionary principles and was prepared to fight to the end to defend socialism .

The adoption of the Pyongyang Declaration provided a much needed shot in the arm for the international communist movement and rallied the world revolutionary forces to defend and advance socialism .
