KCNA Commentary Blasts U.S. Plan to Resume Military Exercises after Olympics

Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- Even before the start of the Winter Olympics, there are increasing concerns at home and abroad about the situation on the Korean Peninsula after the Olympics.

The concerns are increasing as the U.S. is touting the resumption of the joint military exercises with south Korea as soon as the Olympics ends.

Recently a spokesman for the U.S. Defense Department, the director of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff and the U.S. charge d' affaires in south Korea and other men of the Trump group at their official appearances said that they just "adjusted the schedule so that south Korea-U.S. joint military exercises would not overlap with Olympics" and "the exercises will start as soon as the Olympics are over".

This sinister military act aimed to chill the hard-won atmosphere for the improvement of the north-south ties and reverse the trend of development is an outright challenge to the sincere efforts made by the DPRK to defuse the tension on the Korean peninsula and create a peaceful environment.

The U.S. plan to postpone the joint military exercises to the period after the Olympics is never a manifestation of generosity.

This was a measure taken under the strong demand of the south Koreans from all walks of life and the international community, clear evidence that the U.S.-s. Korea joint military exercises are a serious crime harassing peace and security on the Korean peninsula and the region.

Historically, the phase for détente created on the Korean peninsula with much effort was disrupted more than once due to the U.S. racket for war exercises against the DPRK.

Commenting on this, a foreign media confirmed that "if south Korea and U.S. hold large-scale joint military exercises after the Phyongchang Olympics, it would without doubt rattle the DPRK again and chill the DPRK-south Korea relations that have shown positive sign."

Lurking behind the U.S. act of building up the public opinion over the resumption of the joint military exercises even before the opening of the Olympics is its intention to undermine the atmosphere for the improvement of the north-south ties before it gains momentum.

The situation clearly proves that the U.S. is a harasser of the peace on the Korean peninsula, a chief culprit escalating tensions and a main stumbling block standing in the way of Korea's reunification.

What matters here are the moves of the south Korean military warmongers chiming in with the U.S. racket for saber-rattling.

If the U.S. and south Korea resume the large-scale joint military exercises, the situation on the Korean peninsula will again be pushed back to the grim phase of catastrophe and the provokers will have to bear all responsibilities.

The U.S. and the south Korean military warmongers will have to ponder over the consequences to be brought about by their nuclear war saber-rattling. -0-
