One of the persistent demonisation tactics and slander against People’s Korea is to rake up tales told by so-called ‘defectors ‘ or even just claim the existence of such people is evidence enough against People’s Korea .
What are the facts?
. According to south Korea , a number of people originally from the DPRK left and now live in south Korea . Of course this number may well be inflated by the south Korean puppet authorities and probably is not accurate . Even if it is true , the figure is actually a very tiny percentage of the DPRK population , less than 1 per cent .
If you assume that the figure of 30,000 which is actually for a period of a number of years rather than a single year , is accurate (and it is probably not) , then it is actually much lower than the number of people who emigrated from the UK in 2021 which was 234,000 and 300,000 in 2019 but the mainstream media never says that the UK is is a ‘bleak ,repressive hell !!! .
What the south Korean puppet media and the Western mainstream media do not tell you is that in 2020 ; 560,000 people actually left south Korea , nearly 20 times the number of alleged defectors from the DPRK over several decades .
The claimed figure for ‘defections ‘ from the DPRK is also much lower than the numbers that left the former German Democratic Republic in the years before 1989 and also considerably lower than the number of people who left Cuba since 1959 (it is about 30 times lower ) .
Of course successful revolutions can and do result in some people leaving the country such as landlords , capitalists , speculators and profiteers . This is certainly true in the case of both the DPRK and Cuba.
In the case of the DPRK , it is likely that south Korea has inflated the figures of alleged defections from the DPRK by including ethnic Koreans in China , Japan and other parts of the world who hold DPRK passports.
Some will say ‘ah yes but there still are a small number of people who left the DPRK ‘ ? . So what are the reasons behind this?
Firstly , there are those who were tricked , deceived or coerced into going to south Korea , for example Ms Kim Ryon Hui . Also as Korea is a divided country , some people in the DPRK have relatives in south Korea and went to south Korea to join them .
Secondly , as mentioned above, during the socialist revolution former landlords and capitalists who did not like the idea of having to go to work for a living , went to south Korea .
Thirdly, some traitors who had been long term spies for south Korea or the CIA or MI6 went to south Korea to avoid being exposed.
Fourth , criminals who committed serious crimes such as murder ,rape and robbery , fled to avoid justice.
Fifth , some corrupt officials who feared being denounced and removed from their positions, for example certain former DPRK diplomats .
Six , revisionist and capitalist roadist elements who dreamed of ‘reform’ and ‘opening up’ and wanted to see capitalism introduced but were disappointed when it never happened.
Some of the categories overlap .
When ‘defectors ‘ arrive in south Korea , they are ‘processed’ by the authorities there and basically brainwashed with anti-DPRK propaganda . A vocal handful of ‘defectors ‘ have been professional ,celebrity anti -DPRK propagandaists spitting out whatever the CIA and south Korean National Intelligence Service put in their heads , sometimes in a utterly garbled and nonsensical form .
So next time someone says to you ‘ oh what about defectors ‘ or ‘I know someone who knows defectors’ , just remember the hard facts above and take it with a ton of salt
