    The Association For the Study of Songun Politics UK(ASSPUK),the  British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea(BGSJI),the UK Korean Friendship Association(UK KFA) and the British Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification on the Korean Peninsula(BSCPRK) issued a statement on the formation of a UK Preparatory Committee for Celebrating the Day of the Shining Star :

   This is an extremely significant year which will see the 110th anniversary of the birth of the great leader President KIM IL SUNG , the 80th anniversary of the birth of the great leader chairman KIM JONG IL , the 10th anniversary of the election of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN to the position of supreme leadership and the 105th anniversary of the birth of the anti-Japanese war heroine , Madame KIM JONG SUK . The anniversary of the birth of the Chairman KIM JONG IL was designated by the Korean people as the Day of the Shining Star . Therefore we are forming this Preparatory Committee as our humble contribution to the important celebrations.
 
  Chairman KIM JONG IL was born 80 years ago on Mt Paektu , the son of anti-Japanese revolutionary guerrillas .He was the successor to the great Juche revolutionary cause started by the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG .Comrade KIM JONG IL led the Korean revolution to victory  by developing the Juche idea in depth and adminstering the Songun(army-first politics) . Thanks to the leadership of comrade KIM JONG IL the DPRK was turned into a socialist military power and a nuclear state .Moreover comrade KIM JONG IL worked hard for Korean reunification and held the first-ever inter-Korean summit. Comrade KIM JONG IL defended socialism and fought for global independence .
 It is for all the reasons above that the Korean people and world progressive people uphold the leadership and legacy of the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL and proudly celebrate the anniversary of his birth as the Day of the Shining Star.

We will set the period until the 17th of February as a period of study and reflection and we will study the revolutionary activities , ideas and theories of comrade KIM JONG IL in depth .
   We will co-operate with different organisations and political parties  including the New Communist Party of Britain . We aim to organise events to meaningfully celebrate this very important occasion. We will organise online events such as a seminar and poetry evening  and other activities.
