Putting Forward Women as Masters of the Times

  In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, women are playing an important role in all spheres including politics, the economy and culture with the same rights as men.

  After the national liberation in 1945, the great leader Kim Il Sung regarded it as an important work that brooks no delay to promulgate a law legally guaranteeing the independent and creative life of the women who accounted for half of the population. Though he was busy building a new country, he wrote every article of the draft law on sex equality to legalize that women have equal rights with men on July 30, 1946.

  The promulgation of the Law on Sex Equality was a national historic event that realized the cherished desire of the Korean women to live a life worthy of man, freed from the centuries-old feudal oppression, humiliation, contempt and shackles.

  Afterwards, Kim Il Sung had nurseries and kindergartens built everywhere to lessen women's household duties and let them work without any worry in the society. He visited women's workplaces and took all measures for them to discharge their mission and duty.

  As a result, the Korean women could grow to be reliable masters of factories and rural communities, labour innovators and pacesetters of the times.

  Researcher Hwang Kwang Yun at the Academy of Social Sciences said the history of attaching importance to women could go on in this country thanks to the great leader Kim Jong Il who carried forward the will of Kim Il Sung, and continued:

  "The great leader Kim Jong Il attached great importance to the women's issue and worked heart and soul for the strengthening and development of the women's movement in the whole period of his revolutionary life.

  In those days, he made public famous works including 'Women Are a Dynamic Force Pushing Ahead with the Revolution and Construction', thus putting the dignity and honour of the women on the highest level.

  Under his care, the Korean women could keep glorifying their honour as flowers of the times who discharge their duty for prosperity of the country and harmony and happiness of the society and family."

  Today the social position and role of the Korean women are enhanced day after day under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, another peerlessly great man.

  Whenever he met hardworking women officials and workers on his field guidance tour, Kim Jong Un was very pleased and highly praised them. When he visited a women's company, he stood for a long time to have a picture taken with each of the women soldiers as they were very reliable and laudable. And he honours the women who have become mothers of orphans and those who devote all their sincerity to the soldiers.

 At the Fifth National Conference of Mothers held in December 2023, Kim Jong Un said that though the word "working woman" is an everyday word, it means the brilliant honour and clear expression of a communist woman who devotes herself to our cause with a firm confidence in the truthfulness and victory of the cause.

  Many working women devote themselves to the society and collective in all fields including farm fields, factories, enterprises, scientific research bases and educational institutions.

Under the leadership of Kim Jong Un, the Korean women have become cornerstone and foundation for supporting the times and revolution, family and society and are adding lustre to their life as masters of the glorious era and a powerful force of the revolution.
