On August 15th 1945 , Korea finally became independent after many years of darkness as a Japanese colony , Japan being an axis power , an ally of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy . Korea had been annexed by Japan in 1910 but the process of colonisation had already been underway in the 1900s , for example in 1907 the Korean Army was dissolved by the order of the Japanese .
Once Korea was shown on world maps as a province of Japan . I can remember seeing an old 1930s World Atlas at my mothers house in Winchester which showed Korea simply as part of Japan . The Korean people had to suffer from oppression and exploitation by the Japanese imperialists .The four decades of Japanese imperialist rule had been years of darkness and misery for the Korean people . Korean people were not allowed to speak their own language , they were subjected to slave labour , women were kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese and the greedy Japanese imperialists plundering huge quantities of valuable materials .All that changed on the 15th of August 1945 when the heroic revolutionary fighters of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army led by the great leader President KIM IL SUNG stormed into Korea knocking down the evil Japanese imperialist aggressors. Korea became a nation once again to the hearty cheers of Koreans hailing independence . Korean people sang and danced while the decadent Japanese samurais scuttled back to where they had come from .
Korea entered a new era of self-reliant independence , an era of Juche in which the Korean people became masters of their destiny and set about building a new independent people’s country.
Korea’s independence came about as a result of the 20 year long armed struggle carried under the leadership of President KIM IL SUNG and fought under the banner of the great Juche idea . President KIM IL SUNG in the early days of the anti-Japanese armed struggle said “The masters of the revolutionary struggle are the masses of the people, and only when they are organized and mobilized can they win the revolutionary struggle”.
Moreover President KIM IL SUNG was not a pacifist or a reformist so he realised that Korea could not win independence and liberation by peaceful means. There was no peaceful or parliamentary road; it was an illusion.
The fighters of the Anti-Japanese People’s Guerilla Army which was to become the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army (KPRA )fought in the spirit of self-reliance without a state-based rear or the assistance of regular armed forces . Once some guerrillas wanted to ask another country to build a hand grenade factory for them but no such factory materialised so President KIM IL SUNG created the Yongil bomb made from local materials.
.Under the command of the great leader President KIM IL SUNG, an ever victorious iron-willed brilliant commander, the stout hearted and heroic guerrilla revolutionary fighters of the KPRA fought many battles against the Japanese imperialist aggressors such as the battle of Pochonbo and the battle of Musan to name just a few . The battle of Pochonbo on the 4 June 1937 was most significant as it symbolised the KPRA's advance into the Korean homeland.
President KIM IL SUNG also applied the Juche idea to the question of the united front and popular front and founded the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland , a Juche-oriented united national front in May 1936.
On the 9th of August 1945 President KIM IL SUNG gave the order for the units of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army to go over to the final offensive to liberate Korea .
President KIM IL SUNG said "all the officers and men of the KPRA shall be committed to the final battle to destroy and drive out the Japanese imperialist aggressors completely from our homeland " .
The order of President KIM IL SUNG concluded with the words " Let us all march forward to the final victor in the war against the Japanese”.
Acting in tandem with the guerrilla forces of the KPRA the Korean people staged armed uprisings and strikes. Finally on August 15 Japanese imperialism bit the dust and the Korean people became free .
The Korean people over the past 80 years have never looked back , the past 80 years have been 80 years of independence ,self-reliance and Juche . Today People’s Korea under the leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN stands imposingly as an independent socialist power equipped with ICBMs and H bombs !
Long live Korean independence !
