On the 17th of July 2012 , Marshal KIM JONG UN who had been commanding the revolutionary armed forces of People’s Korea since 30th of December 2011 , was awarded the title of Marshal according to the decision of the Central Committee of the Workers Party of Korea(WPK) , the Central Military Commission of the WPK , the then National Defence Commission of the DPRK(now State Affairs Commission) and Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly .
Undoubtedly it was due recognition by the Korean people of the vital role played by Marshal KIM JONG UN in leading and building up the revolutionary armed forces of People’s Korea in a period of intense confrontation with the US imperialists who are the sworn enemy of the Korean people .
Marshal KIM JONG UN visited far flung outposts of the Korean People’s Army (KPA)and visited the frontline at Panmunjom . Early in 2012 he had visited the historic Seoul Ryu Kyong Su no 105th Tank division of the Korean People’s Army which is the unit where great generalissimo KIM JONG IL had started his leadership over the revolutionary armed forces ,it was also the first KPA unit to enter Seoul when it was liberated by the KPA on the 28th of June 1950. The award of the title of Marshal also reflected the confidence of the Korean people and the Workers Party of Korea in the commanding abilities of respected comrade KIM JONG UN.
Over the past 13 years respected Marshal KIM JONG UN has guided the building of the revolutionary armed forces of Juche as well as steering the DPRK through the tense confrontation with US and world imperialism . In 2013 and 2015 when tension was most acute the DPRK under the leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN faced down the US imperialists.
Marshal KIM JONG UN put forward the great revolutionary line of building the economy and nuclear force in parallel at the March 2013 plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers Party of Korea, which became known as Pyongjin, pointing out that
“ As long as the imperialists’ nuclear threat exists, we must keep up simultaneously carrying on the economic construction and the upbuilding of the nuclear forces as an immutable line and further consolidate the nuclear deterrents."
This line was a modern application of the original Juche-based line of building the economy and national defence in parallel which President KIM IL SUNG had put forward in 1962. The DPRK crossed the nuclear finishing line and has become a H bomb and ICBM power.
It is thanks to the DPRK ‘s nuclear deterrent that peace is maintained on the Korean peninsula and the independence of the DPRK is safeguarded . One only has to look at the recent events in Iran when the country was attacked both by the US and Israel , not because it had nuclear weapons but because it did not .
As well building up the KPA in terms of weaponry , technique and militancy , Marshal KIM JONG UN carried forward the line of traditional army -people unity ensuring that the KPA was and is an army of the people and an army for the people . Indeed army-people unity has been strengthened . When natural disasters struck the DPRK on several occasions, the KPA was always first on the scene to rescue people and help them . Many of the massive construction projects in People’s Korea have been completed by the KPA or they have taken the lion’s share of the work.
To conclude, the title of Marshal is not a symbolic or ceremonial title but fully reflects the excellent commanding and leading abilities of respected comrade KIM JONG UN who leads the armed forces and people of the DPRK towards final victory.
