Korea's liberation and its significance -special article by Dr Dermot Hudson

On the 15th of August 1945 ,waves of joy and happiness swept over the Korean nation engulfing every Korean patriot , Korea had become a nation once again , no longer a province but a nation once again as the famous Irish song says . Since 1910 Korea had been a colony of Japan. Korean people had to suffer the harsh and despotic rule of Japanese imperialism  . They could not even speak Korean in their own land . The greedy and crafty Japanese imperialists plundered Korea of its resources such as gold , timber , rice . They committed the unspeakable crime of sexual slavery , robbing innocent Korean women of their chastity and ruining their lives permanently.
On August 15th all that ended , a new dawn of liberation , of independence and national resurrection broke over the beautiful land of the morning calm. The Korean people danced with joy at the news .
Thanks to the efforts of the Anti- Japanese People's Guerilla Army led by the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG , the gifted military strategist and ever victorious iron willed brilliant commander Korea was liberated from dark colonial rule of fascist Japanese imperialism which was a shock brigade of international fascism , a close ally of Hitler Germany and fascist Italy . It was a struggle that had started from scratch . Comrade KIM IL SUNG first formed the Down With Imperialism Union in 1926 , then the Korean Revolutionary Army in July 1930 and the Anti-Japanese People's Guerilla Army in April 1932 which became the Korean People's Revolutionary Army in 1934.
The anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters led by comrade KIM IL SUNG did not have a state to support them nor a rear base so they fought in the spirit of self-reliance . They seized weapons from the Japanese aggressors or manufactured their own . Some hoped that the Soviet Union, the first socialist state, would supply them with a hand-grenade factory but this never materialised so they made their own hand-grenades the 'Yongil bomb'(of course today the DPRK has its own nuclear 'Yongil bomb'.)
Comrade KIM IL SUNG not only fought against the Japanese imperialists but also against opportunists, fake Marxists, flunkeyists , big power chauvinists and sectarians who tried to block the advance of the Korean revolution.

The Korean People's Revolutionary Army fought innumerable battles against the Japanese colonizers and aggressors ,for example at Pochonbo and Musan to name just a few battles . The Anti-Japanese guerrillas often went without food and marched in temperatures of -40c .They had to battle against superhuman odds but they won because they were inspired by the Juche idea , the idea of self-reliance and were led by the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG . Comrade KIM IL SUNG created unique , Juche-based guerrilla tactics
The hard and arduous  revolutionary armed struggle led by the great leader President KIM IL SUNG paid off in the end on the 9th of August 1945 general KIM IL SUNG gave the order for the final offensive against the Japanese marauders. He said that " all officers and men of the KPRA should be committed to the final battle to destroy and drive out the Japanese imperialist aggressors completely from our homeland .
"Officers and men ,display patriotic loyalty and courage in the fierce battle against the Japanese army ! Destroy the the Japanese imperialist aggressors to the last man , the marauders who have drenched the soil of our motherland with the blood of our people! Sledgehammer the enemy in merciless revenge !"
The KPRA together with units of the Soviet Red Army stormed into Korea (however it should be remembered that the USSR entered the war against Japan in August 1945) and at the same time People's Armed Corps that had been formed in different localities staged uprisings. Japanese imperialism in Korea collapsed within the space of 6 days .
The significance of Korea's liberation was manifold . Firstly, the liberation of Korea by the Korean People's Revolutionary Army led by the great leader generalissimo KIM IL SUNG made a great contribution to the victory of the international anti-fascist forces. Secondly , it created a role model for anti-imperialist , anti-colonial struggles . This fact was acknowledged by the  World Cultural Congress in Havana in 1968 . Thirdly , it proved beyond doubt the great vitality and validity of the Juche Idea and the Songun Idea as well the outstanding commanding ablity of the great leader generalissimo KIM IL SUNG .
Korea's liberation had been achieved by the self-reliant efforts of the Korean people led by comrade
KIM IL SUNG , it was not the gift of another country . The new Korea , people's Korea rose up on the ruins of Japanese imperialism. An independent , people's country was built . It almost goes without saying the People's Korea of Juche is the most independent country in the world , fact acknowledged by friend and foe alike . Today under the leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN who carries forwards the ideas of President KIM IL SUNG and Chairman KIM JONG IL the DPRK is consolidating its independence , the legacy of the great anti-Japanese armed struggle.
