Korean Socialism Guaranteeing Women's Rights

Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- To respect women is a social trend and a noble trait in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

In this regard, Ri Song Hwan, section chief of the Human Rights Institute under the DPRK Academy of Social Sciences, told KCNA:

The socialist society in our country provides genuine rights to the women.

Their rights have been ensured by such state laws and policies as the Socialist Constitution, the Law on Protection of Women's Rights and the Socialist Labor Law.

President Kim Il Sung promulgated the Law on Sex Equality on July 30, Juche 35 (1946).

Thanks to this law, the women in the DPRK have been playing the role of proud master of society on equal terms with men.

In the sphere of political life, they are free to conduct social activities and make big contribution to the social development. Ordinary women workers become deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly and many women exercise their political rights to the full in party and government organs and working people's organizations as faithful servants of the people.

They enjoy considerable social benefits from the state in spheres of economic and cultural life.

The state ensures the women the rights to take part in labor and get labor protection and social security on an equal footing with men. Nurseries and kindergartens have been built in residential areas and at industrial establishments and run at the state and social expenses for the convenience of the working women.

Also, the state gives prominence to the women with many children and confers the title of Labor Hero on them. -0-
