From the Voice of Korea website http://vok.rep.kp/
The Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory in the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea produces a lot of oktang sugar called Juche sugar.
Before oktang sugar came into being in Korea, people thought it was impossible to solve the sugar issue without sugarcane.
The great leader Kim Il Sung said it is the best way to solve the sugar issue by producing sugar from corn, named it oktang sugar and paid attention to its production.
True to his lofty will, the great leader Kim Jong Il gave important instructions on solving the issue of oktang sugar in Korean style until the last period of his life.
A few years ago, the respected supreme leader Kim Jong Un proposed modernizing the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory and called for establishing a process of producing oktang sugar in an industrial way.
When the factory was modernized and the system of producing sugar from corn established in a short period, he visited the factory.
Jon Tong Chol, Chief of the Technical Preparation Section of the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory, says:
"The respected supreme leader Kim Jong Un called at our modernized factory on June 15, Juche 105(2016). He expressed great satisfaction over the industrial production of various kinds of sugar from corn in wide cultivation in our country on the basis of our strength and technology.
He highly estimated the successes made by our technicians, saying; Now we have solved the sugar issue our own way as desired by the great leaders. It is the Juche sugar."
Kim Jong Un praised the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory, saying; The factory has thoroughly implemented the party policy. It is great. The factory has established perfect processes of producing various kinds of sugar from corn, making it possible to further strengthen the Juche character of the foodstuff industry.
Disregarding his efforts for the industrial production of Juche sugar, he attributed all successes to the hard work of the workers and technicians of the factory, showing deep trust in and love for them.
Today the Juche sugar is making an active contribution to the improvement of the people's diet as a precious crystallization of the spirit of self-reliance and self-development of the Korean people
