American-Style Democracy on Its Last Legs

There exists a country on this globe that advertises their “democracy” as an “example” in the world and never loses the chance to beautify and “globalize” it. That country is none other than the United States.

No matter how they trumpet their “epitome of democracy”, it is impossible to hide the true colours of American-style democracy fraught with hypocrisy and lies.

A few days ago, the AP carried the results of public opinion poll on the upcoming U.S. mid-term elections. According to it, many Americans feel pessimistic about their country’s democracy and election methods and 52% of the American adult population said that democracy is not being properly promoted.

In the meantime, Mainichi Shimbun reported that about 70% of Americans think American-style democracy is at risk of collapse.

This should be seen as a well-deserved evaluation of the reactionary and anti-popular democracy of American-style and of the unfair election system which lies at its very foundation.

No wonder even the American media deplored the U.S. presidential elections commenting that American-style democracy has shown to the whole world an example of what shouldn’t be done.

As far as the U.S. election system is concerned, it is a three-ring circus where a handful of fat cats pour in stupendous costs fighting against each other, to speak nothing of equal voting rights of the people. Like this, it is an extremely reactionary and anti-popular system where democracy is nowhere to be seen.

It goes without saying that the rich who won the elections backed by money cannot adopt laws or policies for the people.

Today, the U.S. death toll caused by the malignant infectious disease has reached an all-time record, while the majority of the U.S. population is forced to live in fear of poverty and crimes owing to gun-related violence, racial discrimination, energy crisis, human trafficking, and the like. This is the reality of the U.S.

It is the truth of history that those who turn their backs to public sentiment are bound to perish.

The U.S. newspaper Workers’ World previously emphasized that the “all-people-equal society” of the U.S. which the “goddess of liberty” commands, is now awaiting its miserable funeral and capitalism is well on its way to the grave due to its incurable chronic disease.

As can be seen, the American-style democracy is a reactionary democracy where a handful of power-holders and fat cats oppress and exploit the majority of people who are indigent and deprived of all rights, and an aggressive democracy that suppresses and dominates various countries around the world as it pleases.

The American-style democracy – the hotbed of social inequality and class antagonism – is on its last legs.
