KFA UK Refutes the Remarks of UK Ambassador to the UN Ambassador Barbara Woodward to the UN Security Council Meeting .

At a recent UN Security Council Meeting (UNSC) meeting that was called by the US imperialists in response to the successful Hwasongpho 17 ICBM test by People’s Korea , the UK Ambassador to the UN one Barbara Woodward ( never heard of her before ) slandered the DPRK in a vitriolic manner  denying the DPRK’s basic independent right to self-defence  . Woodward called for more sanctions  “to disrupt North Korea’s unlawful testing and illicit proliferation”.

What is noticeable about Ms Woodward’s unseemly diatribe is that nowhere does she use the correct title , the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea or DPRK for short  but instead throughout the speech refers to the DPRK as ‘North Korea ‘ . Historically there has never been ‘north Korea ‘ or ‘south Korea ‘ , Korea was artificially divided in 1945 by the US imperialists . Refusing to refer to the DPRK by its proper name is an insult and affront to the dignity of the DPRK and a denial of its right to existence and a denial of the socialist system of the DPRK . This makes us wonder whether there has been a further shift to the Right in the UK policy towards the DPRK ?

Ms Woodward claims the DPRK ‘s ICBM test was illegal but this is nonsense . There is no international law that says that the DPRK cannot test ICBMs . What is illegal are the UNSC resolutions against the DPRK’s ICBM tests and the sanctions against the DPRK . In recent years countries such as the US , Russia and India have tested missiles but these tests have not been the subject of discussions at the UN Security Council nor has the UK denounced them .

The DPRK ‘s recent ICBM test and the ones before it are purely self-defensive ones carried out to counter the increasing threats to the DPRK . The DPRK’s deterrent is what it says on the tin , a deterrent . Moreover the DPRK has never sold ICBMs to other countries  so the allegation of proliferation by Ms Woodward is untrue . 

The US continues to occupy south Korea and has many missiles in south Korea . South Korea itself is one of the biggest military spenders in the world . It was the US that shipped nuclear weapons into south Korea in 1957 and stationed 1,000 nuclear warheads in south Korea but Ms Woodward just ignores this .

Ms Woodward not only interferes in the DPRK ‘s sovereignty by denying its right to self-defence but all calls for the DPRK to open up to fake “humanitarian ‘ aid of imperialism which is an attempt to destroy the socialist system of the DPRK . There is no human rights issue in the DPRK because food is supplied at low cost , housing is virtually free and there is also free education and free healthcare . The DPRK government recently took a measure to enhance the diet of nursery and kindergarten children .

 As to Ms Woodward’s call for the DPRK to  “engage meaningfully with the US in dialogue, and abandon all of its nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programmes in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner.’. This is basically a call for regime change and for the  DPRK to abandon it socialist system .

We strongly reject and denounce Ms Woodward’s speech to the UNSC and support the right of the DPRK to defend itself by carrying out ICBM tests.
