Anniversary of Worker-Peasant Red Guards Marked

Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- It has been 60 years since the Worker-Peasant Red Guards (WPRG), Juche-based militia forces, was founded in the DPRK.
The WPRG, together with the Korean People's Army, is the revolutionary armed forces faithfully upholding the cause of the Workers' Party of Korea and the powerful forces for defending the country and building socialism.
On January 14, Juche 48 (1959) President Kim Il Sung declared the birth of the WPRG which inherited the revolutionary traditions. This was a historic event of weighty significance in building the revolutionary armed forces and establishing the all-people defence system.
Over the past 60 years, the WPRG has covered a course of victory and glory under the guidance of the WPK, holding rifle in one hand and hammer, sickle and writing brush in the other.
It would have been unthinkable without the wise leadership of the President that the WPRG grew up into invincible ranks with well-organized mobilization system and steel-strong combat strength and got fully ready to go into action so as to reliably defend the hometowns, factories, enterprises and main facilities from the enemy's invasion.
Paying deep attention to the strengthening of the militia forces along with the regular armed forces from the start of his Songun (army-first) revolutionary guidance, Chairman Kim Jong Il took detailed measures for rounding off the combat preparedness of people's defence forces in every period of the developing revolution. Thanks to his leadership, the WPRG could turn into forces strong in ideology and faith and the ranks of a-match-for-a-hundred combatants ready for attack and defence, which are identical to the Korean People's Army in disposition and traits.
Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un has strengthened the WPRG into powerful militant ranks fully prepared in politico-ideological and military technical aspects to defend the hometowns and the country.
Now, the WPRG is devotedly defending the cause of the Party and displaying its might as powerful ranks in national defence and the building of a powerful socialist country. -0-
