Precondition for National Reunification

In his New Year Address for 2018, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un said that a climate favorable for national reconciliation and reunification should be established in order to repair frozen inter-Korean relations and create environment conducive to national concord.

Now the unity of the Korean nation is a pressing task.

The atmosphere of national reconciliation and reunification never comes by itself. It is realized through contact, travel, cooperation and exchange. The north and the south should remove mutual misunderstanding and distrust through wide-ranging contact, visit, cooperation and exchange thus fulfill their responsibility and role as the motive force of national reunification.

All legal and institutional mechanisms should be removed in south Korea in order to create conditions and environment conducive to inter-Korean reconciliation and reunification. The south Korean authorities should put a definite end to acts that might offend the other party and incite discord and hostility between fellow countrymen.

Of late, inter-Korean dialogue was held thanks to north Korea’s energetic effort for creating a climate favorable for national reconciliation and reunification. It is a manifestation of great magnanimity and sincerity of north Korea for achieving a breakthrough for independent reunification without being obsessed by bygone days.

The future orientation of the inter-Korean relations depends on the south Korean authorities' efforts for creating the atmosphere of national reconciliation and reunification.

The south Korean authorities should respond positively to north Korea’s sincere efforts for establishing a climate favorable for national reconciliation and reunification.

Now civic bodies and people of all backgrounds urge the south Korean authorities to take the road of peace and reunification with north Korea, positively supporting active measures taken by north Korea for alleviating tension on the Korean Peninsula and improvement of north-south relations.
