When the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL passed away in December 2011 the Korean people adopted the slogan ‘ Let Us Turn Sorrow into strength ‘ and they put it into action .
Although comrade KIM JONG IL passed away so suddenly the Korean people quickly rallied around his successor respected comrade KIM JONG UN and a new era began . The song ‘ Footsteps ‘ , the theme song of Marshal KIM JONG UN with its refrain ‘ Footsteps, Footsteps
spreading out further the sound of a brilliant future ahead
tramp, tramp, tramp, ah, footsteps’ reverberated the length and breadth of the DPRK and so the era of KIM JONG UN came into being in the DPRK.
On the 30th of December 2011 the Political Bureau of the Workers Party of Korea (WPK) appointed Marshal KIM JONG UN as Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army. Earlier Rodong Sinmun the daily paper of the Central Committee of the WPK urged comrade
KIM JONG UN to take the post of supreme commander of the Korean People’s Army as demanded by the Korean people . The Political Bureau of the Workers Party of Korea represented the will of millions of members of the WPK and their families , basically the whole people of the DPRK .
In fact earlier in September 2010 the 3rd Conference of the Workers Party of Korea elected comrade KIM JONG UN as vice chairman of the central military commision of the WPK .
Some people like to dismiss the issue of succession under socialism saying it is not important but the issue of succession under socialism is actually a very important one . A number of socialist countries went to ruin and even collapsed because a proper successor to the leader was not appointed. The question of succession is actually of fundamental and paramount importance. The leader is the centre of unity and the supreme brain of the revolution. Even the most perfect machine can be rendered useless by an incompetent operator. The experience of the former socialist countries such as the USSR proves this . In fact in any society the question of succession is an important one, even bourgeois employers like to talk about “succession planning'.
Marshal KIM JONG UN carried forward the work of comrade KIM JONG IL and defended his ideas . He held fast to the line of Songun or army first leadership . On the 1st of January 2012 . Marshal KIM JONG UN visited the historic Seoul Ryu Kyong Su no 105th Tank Division of the KPA which was the army unit where comrade KIM JONG IL had started his Songun or army first revolutionary leadership on the 25th of August 1960, it was also the first KPA unit to enter Seoul the south Korean puppet capital in June 1950 when the KPA liberated south Korea. This symbolised the will of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN to continue with the Songun based revolutionary leadership of generalissimo KIM JONG IL . Some enemies of People’s Korea had pinned hopes on a so-called policy switch or change of line in the DPRK once comrade KIM JONG IL passed away but this did not happen much to their bitter and everlasting disappointment .
Under Marshal KIM JONG UN’s leadership of the DPRK defence power , its war deterrent power was steadily increased.The DPRK crossed the nuclear finishing line to become a nuclear power of Juche and an ICBM power .In March 2013, dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN put forward the brilliant and dynamic line of Pyongjin , that is building the economy and nuclear force in parallel. He led the implementation of this line to its victorious conclusion . Marshal KIM JONG UN told the 3rd Plenary meeting of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea on the 21st of April that " the miraculous victory of having perfectly accomplished the great historic cause of building the state nuclear force in a short span of less than five years is the great victory of the WPK's line of simultaneously pushing forward the economic construction and the building of a nuclear force and, at the same time, a brilliant victory that could be won only by the heroic Korean people."
Therefore the DPRK moved onto a new stage of development , namely rapid socialist economic construction under the banner of self-reliance and self-development . The fact that the DPRK had became a strategic state meant that the DPRK could sit down with the US as an equal negotiating partner .Thanks to the correct policies of the DPRK and the efforts of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN the first ever DPRK-US summit was held in Singapore on the 12th of June 2018. This was an astonishing event that no one expected would happen . Indeed it had seemed like war between the DPRK and US was inevitable but thanks to the skill of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN and the DPRK's deterrent force this miracle of diplomacy happened . Also the DPRK was able to hold 3 inter-Korean summits and make a breakthrough in improving inter-Korean relations

Marshal KIM JONG UN further developed the people-orientated policies of Chairman KIM JONG IL who believed in making flowers bloom on a rock if necessary for the people . I recall hearing respected Marshal
KIM JONG UN’s first ever public speech which was made at the military parade on April 15 2012 in which he said as follows “ It is our party’s resolute determination to let our people who are the best in the world — our people who have overcome all obstacles and ordeals to uphold the party faithfully — not tighten their belts again and enjoy the wealth and prosperity of socialism as much as they like”
Marshal KIM JONG UN is working heart and soul to improve the living standards of the people . At the 3rd plenary meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers Party of Korea held in June this year , an important decision was taken to supply nursery and kindergarten children with dairy products free of charge .
During the past 10 years the amount of construction carried out by the DPRK has been phenomenal . I visited the DPRK for the second time in 2012 ,this time in September 5 months after my previous visit .Changjon Street and a new People’s Theatre had been built . This was followed by the construction of Mirae Scientists Street , Ryomyong Street , a whole new city at Samjiyon plus many cultural ,recreational, health and educational facilities such as the Rungna People’s Pleasure Park , the Munsu Water Park , the Okryu Children's Hospital and many others to name just a few . These projects if built in the so-called developed capitalist countries would cost billions upon billions of pounds to build .
This amazing pace of construction , which I do not think is matched anywhere else in the world, has not been carried out in ideal conditions but under harsh sanctions .
Although the hostile forces led by the US imperialists have imposed sanction after sanction against People’s Korea , Marshal KIM JONG UN has raised higher and higher the banner of self -reliance and self-development thereby thwarting the sanctions .
Today the DPRK has not a single case of Covid 19 or a single death from Covid 19 . This is due to the totally correct policies of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN . Moreover the DPRK closed its borders 22 months ago but has survived when some countries would not last 2 or 3 days . The DPRK has rejected the fake ,so-called ‘humanitarian aid ‘ of imperialism . This is another great achievement of People’s Korea .
The single -hearted unity of the Korean people around the Party , the leader and the Juche idea has been further strengthened . The past 10 years have seen the holding of two successful congresses of the Workers’ Party of Korea and also many splendid celebratory events such as those around the 60th anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War , the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea , the 105th anniversary of the birth of the great leader President KIM IL SUNG , the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK , the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers Party of Korea and the 73rd anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK . All of which have demonstrated the unity of the people and the support of the people for the party and the government .
Now the Korean people under the leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN are working hard to successfully implement the decisions of the 8th Congress of the Workers Party of Korea that was held in January.
To conclude (as time is limited ) Marshal KIM JONG UN has victoriously carried forward the cause of comrade KIM JONG IL and opened up a new era of prosperity and increasing national strength based on self-reliance .
