The imperialist reactionaries are now slandering our Republic, the motherland of Juche, claiming that it is “closed” and “isolated,” and are making futile attempts to lead us to “reform” and “openness.”….

The “reform” and “openness” they are advocating represent a move to destroy and put down our style of socialism. Such moves will only worsen their relations with us and are doomed to failure

The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL , the eternal general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea always opposed the revisionist concept of "reform" and "opening up " . When the great leader President KIM IL SUNG passed away the imperialists and some others expressed the hope that the DPRK would pursue a policy of "reform" and "opening up", policy that have been so disastrous in other countries  for example "glasnost " and "perestroika " had destroyed the former Soviet Union with its 70 year long history of building and in other country which had adopted "reform " and "opening up"  very little socialism can be seen other than the red flag on buildings . The scheming imperialists who leave no stone unturned to dismantle socialism sent messages to the DPRK through different channels saying that the DPRK would be given huge
amounts of aid if they adopted "reform " and "opening up " .  The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL
declared " EXPECT NO CHANGE FROM ME  !"
                                  

KIM JONG IL warned against the tricks of the imperialists in a speech "On Some Problems Arising in the Implementation of the Party's Foreign Trade First Policy " made on the 2nd of February 1995 in which he
said  " No one in the world  is as greedy as a capitalist .There is no precedent for imperialists and capitalists giving something for nothing . If they promise to give us something , they do so because they have an ulterior motive .It is in their malicious nature to cause an illness first and then adminster medicine. We should never been taken in by their promise of financial aid ". This shows how astute KIM JONG IL was .
                      Later in his 1997 work "ON PRESERVING THE JUCHE CHARACTER AND NATIONAL CHARACTER IN THE REVOLUTION AND CONSTRUCTION  KIM JONG IL
denounced the so-called prescriptions of the imperialists for other countries " As reality shows, in the countries which accepted the imperialist “prescription”, social problems and economic difficulties have become more serious and national disputes become more chronic.The countries which are suffering social economic difficulties and national disputes must reject the “prescription” of the imperialists which only worsens their conditions.They must break through the difficulties following their own prescription."

On the 1st of January 1999 KIM JONG IL spoke to Senior Officials of the Central Committee of the
Workers' Party of Korea and told them  "We should build a great ,prosperous and powerful country under the banner of self-reliance ....We must never be capitivated by the "restructuring " and "openness " advertised by the imperialists. "Restructuring " and "openness " are the way to national ruin ". We must not tolerate them to the slightest degree "


Thus the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL stuck to the road of Juche and self-reliance charted by the great leader and was a fervent anti-revisionist , anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist.!
