Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) released the following press statement on May 12:
The 10th urgent special meeting of the UN General Assembly on Friday adopted with approval by the overwhelming majority of member states a resolution on granting Palestine almost same qualifications and rights as a full-fledged UN member state, expressing serious concern over the recent U.S. veto against Palestine's entry to the UN.
The DPRK fully supports it, acknowledging that the adoption of the resolution is a measure very appropriate in timing now that the legitimate national rights of the Palestinians are mercilessly violated by the U.S. high-handed and arbitrary practices.
The adopted resolution reflects the strong desire of the international community to bring peace and stability to the Middle East as early as possible by recognizing Palestine as a full-fledged independent sovereign state.
Nevertheless, the U.S. voted against it in disregard of the international justice and the call of the times, and openly said that it would exercise its veto again if the issue of Palestine's UN membership was referred to the UN Security Council.
Furthermore, such brigandish assertion is heard within the U.S. that the U.S. should stop its financial contributions to the UN if Palestine comes to have the same rights as the UN member states.
The righteous international community is greatly angered by the extreme Yankee-style arrogance of the U.S. calling for punishing anyone disobedient to it.
As already known, the U.S. unhesitatingly vetoed a relevant draft resolution at a UNSC meeting on April 18 under the absurd pretext that Palestine's entry to the UN is possible only through direct negotiations with Israel.
The U.S. asserts that Palestine's entry to the UN, in which Israel is a member state, runs counter to the "two-state solution policy." This is just unconvincing, nonsensical paradox, and to urge Palestine to gain its statehood through direct negotiations with Israel committing genocide against Palestinians is little short of pushing them to give up their efforts for building an independent state.
The reality clearly proves that the U.S. pursues "one Jewish state policy", instead of "two-state solution policy", and is same as Israel in the intention to wipe the Palestinian nation off the face of the earth.
The U.S., openly denying the internationally recognized "two-state solution policy" and zealously patronizing Israel, can never dodge its responsibility for having plunged the innocent Palestinians into death and despair.
Expressing full support for and solidarity with the just cause of the Palestinian people for putting an end to the illegal Israeli occupation and building an independent sovereign state, the DPRK will actively join the efforts of the righteous international community to bring peace and stability to the Middle East in a manner of meeting the interests of the Palestinian people. -0-
