This year marks the fifth anniversary of the historic meeting between Kim Jong Un, president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez, president of the Republic of Cuba, who visited the DPRK.

Though the two countries are far away with the ocean and the continent in between, their friendly relations have a long history and tradition.

President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il established true comradely relationship with Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban revolution, and Comrade Raul Castro Ruz from the first day of victory of the Cuban revolution in the joint struggle for socialism against imperialism and, based on it, steadily developed the DPRK-Cuba friendly relations.

Kim Il Sung was the staunch defender of the Cuban revolution and the closest friend of the Cuban people, and Kim Jong Il paid close attention to developing the cooperative relations in various fields of politics, the economy and military, attaching special importance to the relations with Cuba remaining faithful to the socialist principle and comradely obligation.

Fidel Castro Ruz and Raul Castro Ruz absolutely supported the just cause of the Korean people for building a powerful socialist country and national reunification despite the complicated international situation.

Today the friendly relations between the two countries are developing into special comradely and strategic relations thanks to the intimacy between Kim Jong Un and Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

In November Juche 107 (2018), Kim Jong Un had a historic meeting with Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez, president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba (at that time), on a visit to the DPRK.

They discussed the issue of further expanding and developing cooperation and exchanges in various fields of the economy, culture, public health, science and technology, and expressed firm stand and will to further expand and strengthen the strategic and comradely relations of friendship and cooperation between the two parties and countries as required by the new era in the future, too.

Their meeting marked a historic occasion of further deepening the feelings of friendship, demonstrating the invincibility of traditional comradeship, trust and solidarity between the two countries forged in the common struggle for anti- imperialist independence and socialism.

Recently, the two countries are further strengthening their support and solidarity in the struggle to defend the sovereignty and dignity of the country and realize international justice against the high-handed and arbitrary practices of the imperialists.

The Korean people extend full support and solidarity to the Cuban people in their struggle to carry forward and develop through generations the socialist cause pioneered and victoriously advanced by their preceding leaders, frustrating the ever-increasing sanctions and blockade of the US and its moves to isolate and stifle their country, rallied closely behind the Communist Party headed by Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

All members of the DPRK-Cuba Friendship Parliamentary Group of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK extend warm congratulations to the deputies to the People’s Power of Cuba on their great successes in the struggle for guaranteeing the Cuban revolution, revitalizing the economy of the country and the wellbeing of the people through state-building activities, hoping that they would register bigger success in the future struggle.

We will make positive efforts to further strengthen and develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and always fight shoulder to shoulder with the fraternal Cuban people in the same trench of the struggle for anti-imperialist independence and socialism.

So Ho Won, chairman of the DPRK-Cuba Friendship Parliamentary Group of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK
