Today under the leadership of respected Marshal KIM JONG UN the DPRK is prospering with new streets and even whole towns and cities springing up year after year . The springboard for this rising prosperity was laid down by the great leader comrade KIM JONG IL who passed away on the 17th of December 2011 , before he could see the new century of Juche (2012 to 2112 ) .
Comrade KIM JONG IL had led the struggle for socialist construction in People’s Korea in the most difficult conditions . In July 1994 the Korean people suffered the greatest and unprecedented loss , the sudden passing away of the great leader comrade KIM IL SUNG , Worse still the DPRK suffered several years of natural disasters which caused losses in economic construction as well as a difficult and challenging external environment caused by the imperialists sanctions and blockade as well as the disappearance of the world socialist market due to modern revisionism .
Comrade KIM JONG IL, who upheld self-reliance and the Juche idea , refused to bow down, instead pointing out that self-reliance was the only way out saying " We should, by holding higher the banner of the Juche idea, adhere to the principle of independence, and at all times live our own way.".
Comrade KIM JONG IL rallied the Korean people and inspired them to overcome all obstacles and difficulties inspiring them to new feats . In 1998 he went to Jagang province in the far northern part of the DPRK , there he kindled the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance saying that " the people of Jagang province are giving full play to the spirit of self-reliance and fortitude , they are strong-willed and never seem to get pessimistic ". The people of Jagang province inspired by his teachings created the Jagang spirit .Comrade KIM JONG IL also visited the Chollima Steel Complex , the birthplace of the Chollima movement ( Chollima was a legendary flying horse of Korea which could cover a big distance in one day so the name was given to the mass innovation .movement of workers in the DPRK) and other key industrial complexes and factories. In the period of the "Arduous March" and "forced march" which lasted from September 1994 to December 1999 comrade KIM JONG IL made on the spot guidance trips 247 times covering a distance of 129,000 km .
On the 31st of August 1998 the DPRK achieved the miracle of launching its first ever artificial earth satellite the Kwangmyongsong -1 which was made with 100 per cent domestic materials , resources and technology . Later in May 2009 the DPRK launched its second satellite the Kwangmyongsong -2 , which again stunned the world.
In 1999 comrade KIM JONG IL put forward the line of building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation saying that “We should build a great ,prosperous and powerful country under the banner of self-reliance”.
Under the leadership of comrade KIM JONG IL the DPRK pressed ahead with developing potato farming ; ‘the potato revolution ‘ and carried out land rezoning Comrade KIM JONG IL made sure that the production of Juche fibre(Vinalon) , Juche fertiliser and Juche steel were stepped up. He attended the rally for the re-opening of the February 8th Vinalon Complex in 2010 and gave on-the-spot guidance to the complex several times. Projects for new housing such as Mansudae Street which was completed within one year were pushed forward.
When I see pictures of the prospering and rapidly developing People’s Korea with so many new buildings I recall the hard work done by comrade KIM JONG IL which is now carried forward by dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN , the great successor to the Juche revolutionary cause .
