S. Korean Regime Accused of Aborting Joint National Event Marking June 15

Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- The spokesman for the North Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration released a statement Tuesday as regards the fact that the reunification event for celebrating June 15 and the memorial service to be jointly held by compatriots from the north, south and abroad have become abortive due to the obstructive moves of the south Korean puppet regime although they have been pushed forward amid great expectation and concern of the public at home and abroad.
    The North Side Committee called on compatriots in the south and abroad to hold with splendor a joint national event for reunification in Kaesong with representatives from various circles in the north, south and abroad involved on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration, the statement recalled, adding:
    The committee also proposed holding a joint memorial service to honor the victims of the ferry sinking disaster in south Korea.
    Those just proposals made by the DPRK were fully supported and welcomed by the South Side Committee and the Overseas Side Committee and other organizations and personages of various circles in south Korea and abroad.
    Nevertheless, only the Park Geun Hye group of south Korea deterred the South Side Committee from participating in the working contact scheduled to be held in Kaesong as regards the joint reunification event, unreasonably oft-repeating the assertion that those events would stir up "conflict in the south" and "it is not appropriate under the present situation of the north-south relations" and the like.
    This is nothing but a blatant challenge to the north-south joint declaration and a tyrannical action against reunification and nation.
    The historic June 15 joint declaration serves as a foundation of reconciliation and unity of the nation, a starting point for mending the north-south relations and a great joint programme of the nation for reunification the validity and vitality of which have already been proved in practice.
    However, the Park group has been keen on escalating the confrontation with the DPRK in wanton violation of the north-south joint declarations, letting loose such anti-reunification sophism as "great opportunity for unification", "Dresden initiative" and the like.
    It is none other than the puppet group which has blocked the NGOs of the north and the south from having contacts and joint meetings for implementing the north-south declarations and even cut off their communication.
    It is the sinister design of the Park group to obliterate the north-south joint declarations, completely block the reunification movement and cooperation of NGOs, push the north-south relations to a catastrophe and thus realize its wild ambition for the confrontation of the social systems in the north and the south.
    The more desperately the south Korean puppet group works to escalate the confrontation with the compatriots in the north while violating the north-south declarations and suppressing the activities of people of various circles in south Korea for reunification, the stronger resistance of all compatriots it will encounter and the further it will precipitate its miserable ruin.
    The statement called on all compatriots at home and abroad to intensify the struggle for implementing the north-south declarations and thus frustrate the puppet group's vicious moves to escalate the confrontation with the compatriots in the north and open up a new phase of independent reunification, peace and prosperity. -0-
