London 16th June 2025
The British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea (BGSJI) and the  Korean Friendship Association of the UK  ( KFA UK ) issued the following joint statement today which is supportive of the Press Statement by Director of Institute for Japan Studies under DPRK Foreign Ministry that was titled "It is the inevitable moral responsibility and international legal obligation of Japan, a war criminal state, to face up to the history and liquidate its past" issued on Sunday 15th of June ;

Soon it will be the 80th anniversary of the unconditional surrender of Japan which had an axis power allied to Nazi Germany and fascist Italy.

In Japan opinions are divided as to whether a proper apology for Japan's crimes in World War and indeed the period before should be offered or whether it should be seen as resolved by an earlier statement by then Japanese Premier Abe . Of course the far right in Japan are trying to deny the crimes of Japanese imperialism in the past .

Japan is basically trying to sweep its horrendous crimes under the carpet and whitewash its history as an aggressor state and enemy of peace . As the director of the Institute for Japan studies of the DPRK Foreign Ministry correctly comments " This is an unpardonable mockery and insult upon the peoples of the DPRK and other Asian countries that are suffering from the hideous crimes of the Japanese imperialists and an open provocation to the international justice and conscience"

Japan's crimes against the Korean nation were immense and cannot be airbrushed out of history .The Japanese imperialists brutally massacred more than one million Koreans, hurled more than 8.4 million young and middle-aged people into battle sites of aggression and slave labour sites by forcibly abducting them and mercilessly trampled down the youth of 200 000 women by reducing them into sexual slaves of the Japanese army.

The Japanese imperialists even forced Koreans to adopt Japanese names and tried to obliterate the Korean nation.

As is stated by the Director of the Institute of Japan Studies "History cannot be erased by ink, burned by fire, or torn by sword." These words are very true and wise .

We believe that Japan should face up to its moral responsibilities. Meanwhile the British public should be made aware of the crimes of the Japanese imperialists which are all often ignored .

Down with Japanese imperialism !
