A Presentation given by the JISGE secretary general on the 16th April 1994 Speech of President KIM IL SUNG
In the last few months of his life, President KIM IL SUNG, met many international delegations. In 1994, President KIM IL SUNG, for
instance, had ground breaking discussions
with former US President
Jimmy Carter ( Jimmy Carter was US President between 1977-81), at a
time of intense tensions around the nuclear question on the Korean
peninsula. Luo Martens, the Chairman of the Workers Party of Belgium,
was infact, the last foreign political leader and activist to have had
an audience with President KIM IL SUNG on June 30th, 1994. It will come as no surprise, that the Leader of the Korean Revolution, the Respected Comrade KIM IL SUNG, was with a representative of a party, which is staunchly anti-imperialist and anti-revisionist.
At the time of his 82nd birthday, President KIM IL SUNG
gave a talk to the members of the Pyongyang visiting group of former
heads of state and government and other politicians of different
countries. President KIM IL
SUNG at the
beginning of his April 1994 talk
dispelled the myths about the DPRK created by the Western media. Since
1994, the lies and distortions about the DPRK have grown much larger in
Western countries. Actually a sort of cottage industry has arisen in the
imperialist nations, which produces falsehood after falsehood inregard
to the reality in Peoples Korea. President KIM IL SUNG said the following "At
present, some people make up false propaganda about our country, but in
our country there is no unemployment, no beggars and no homeless
people. Apparently there is no country in the world but our country
where are no unemployed people and beggars. I have never been to the
United States, but in this developed country, too, there are many
unemployed and homeless people. We cannot say that our people's life is
affluent, but they
live equally without worry, nobody is particularly well off or badly
off. Tax has been long abolished in our country. Recently our country
set forth the agriculture-first policy, the light-industry-first policy
and the foreign trade-first policy, if this policy is put into effect in
several years, our people will become better off".
President KIM IL SUNG relates
anecdote about a woman merchant from Hong Kong, who had lost her purse,
in which there were tens of thousands of Hong Kong and US Dollars. The
woman was sick with worry and thought that she would never get her money
back. But a chambermaid found the purse and returned it to her with all
the cash intact. KIM IL SUNG said that the merchant was deeply moved and stated that such a laudable deed could only be found in the Democratic Peoples
Republic of Korea.
The
importance of education in constructing a post colonial society, in
remoulding people into the active builders of socialism, was emphasized
by President KIM IL SUNG during his talk. When Korea was
liberated in August, 1945, there were no higher educational institutions
to speak of, and only 12 engineering graduates. As President KIM IL SUNG
put it, those who took part in the Anti-Japanese armed struggle knew
how to fire a rifle or make a bomb, but they were not technically able
to draw up a plan or run a factory. Along with defence, education became
the priority for the Korean Revolution. The first major decision of the
North Korean Peoples Committee was on the production of pencils
for schoolchildren. So as to train an army of intellectuals, Kim IL
Sung University was established on October 1st, 1946. Kim IL Sung
University acted as a vanguard in the advance of higher education and
academic research in the DPRK. In Socialist Korea, there are 155
universities and institutes. The DPRK has 1.7 million graduates, which
means there one graduate among 11 people. Higher education in the DPRK
is completely free and students receive grants.
The
cause of socialism in the late 1980s and early 1990s was on the
retreat. Socialist countries were either collapsing or making
concessions to the class enemy. Even the mighty Soviet Union had ceased
to exist since December 1991. But there was one country in the world
which upheld the Red Flag and had more socialism, not less, and that
nation was the Democratic
Peoples Republic of Korea. President KIM IL SUNG analysed the reasons for the fall of socialism in some countries and the durability of the Korean style socialism. KIM IL SUNG made
the point that the collapse of the USSR and the Eastern European
Socialist Countries had resulted from the fact that bureaucracy was
rampant and the worship of great powers prevailed. The parties and
governments of the countries where socialism fell, paid no attention to
the peoples' opinion and exercised bureaucracy. As a result they lost
the support of the people and perished. Another factor in the demise
of socialism in Europe, was the lack of independence and creativity
displayed in the practice of constructing a new society, and
the flunkeyism practiced by the Eastern European Communist Parties.
Even a saying went that when it rained in Moscow,
the people of the German Democratic Republic took umbrellas, though it
was not raining in Berlin.
Korean
style socialism survived and consolidated due to the fact that it is
based upon independence and creativity. Socialism in the DPRK has been
strengthened over the course of decades, with the practice of the three
revolutions, ideological, technical and cultural. The DPRK is meeting
the challenges of the age, with the development of the Songun
Revolutionary Leadership. The Workers' Party of Korea did not fall into
the pitfalls of bureaucratic behaviour and subjectivism. Socialism in
Korea was strengthened by listening to the demands of the people, by
using the Chongsong-ri Method and the Taean Management System. The emblem
of the WPK, the brush symbolic of the intellectuals, with the hammer
for the working
class and the sickle for the peasantry, embodies the Juche philosophy
of the single hearted unity of the Korean People.
President KIM IL SUNG made the following point "The Soviet Union and the Eastern European countries which had been building socialism all
collapsed, but our country is steadily following the socialist road,
instead of falling down, this is because our Party has carried out the
Juche orientated line and policy. It sets forth all our lines and
policies to suit our people's demand for independence, and the specific
reality of our country and implements them thoroughly. This is
immediately Juche and our style. Our Party has not
approached Marxism-Leninism mechanically, but
developed and carried out the revolution and construction in our own
way based upon the Juche Idea. Nowadays, some people say that Korea will
fall down because the Soviet Union and the East European Socialist
countries all collapsed, but our country is unshakable. Our Party is the
party of a new type, the revolutionary party of Juche, unprecedented in
the world and socialism of our country is a socialism of Juche. To
bring about friendship with us, you need to have a correct understanding
of socialism of our style".
The independent, peaceful reunification of Korea remained at the forefront of President KIM IL SUNG's activities. President KIM IL SUNG made the point, although Korea was divided by outside forces, so Korea must be
reunified by the Korean People themselves, in the north, in the south and overseas. President KIM IL SUNG made numerous
proposals over a period of more than 40 years, from 1948 to 1994, for
Korea's reunification. On April 6th, 1993, President KIM IL SUNG unveiled
The 10 Point Programme For the Great Unity of the Whole Nation For The
Reunification of the Country. The last documents signed by President KIM IL SUNG were
on the question of the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea,
on July 6th and 7th, 1994. The seeds for Korean Reunification were sown
by President KIM IL SUNG came into being with the historic north-south Pyongyang summit meetings and declarations of June 2000 and of October 2007.
President KIM IL SUNG in
his April 1994 talk reiterated the desire of the DPRK for peaceful
relations with the United States and other capitalist countries. That
essentially the reason for the continual tensions on the Korean
Peninsula is the lack of a Peace Treaty between the DPRK and the USA.
Even the "bright sparks" of the Western media must understand the
simple fact, that the DPRK is threatened with a thousand nuclear weapons
stationed by the US in south Korea and with a US military force
numbering 40,000 in the south of Korea. It is until these aggressive
formations are removed from south Korea, that there will be Peace and
Reunification on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.
President KIM IL SUNG during his April 16th, 1994 talk, spoke very movingly about the role of Comrade KIM JONG IL in the Korean Revolution. KIM IL SUNG stressed that KIM JONG IL had
systematized the Juche Idea and strengthened the Party, the Army and
the State in Socialist Korea. Many revolutionary processes in history
have stalled or have been betrayed, as a result of not having a
reliable succession of leadership. In Korea, this issue was solved
creatively by President KIM IL SUNG by having the Chairman KIM JONG IL as the successor to the revolutionary leadership. Chairman KIM JONG IL
remained loyal throughout his lifetime to the Juche Revolutionary Cause of President KIM IL SUNG.
President KIM IL SUNG remarked "Comrade Kim Jong IL, too, follows my example, never being ridden by bureaucracy and subjectivism. He always goes
among the people and listens to them to solve every problem fairly. His
successful leadership over the revolution and construction is related
to his extraordinary leadership ability and noble personality. Comrade
Kim Jong IL is the excellent people's leader who has both literary and
military knowledge, combined with a loyal and filial mind. So I wrote a
poem of eulogy to him on the occasion of
his 50th birthday."
Today, the socialist legacy of the Respected President KIM IL SUNG and the Great General Secretary KIM JONG IL is being brilliantly inherited and applied by the Dear Marshal KIM JONG UN. Marshal KIM JONG UN is
now transforming the DPRK into the thriving and powerful independent
socialist nation under the red banner of Songun. Socialist Korea has
become a country respected by the international community due to its
independence and national dignity. KIM IL SUNG's country, KIM JONG IL's Korea is truly admired by the peoples across the globe who aspire after independence, social justice and peace.
