UK Korean Friendship Association
The UK Korean Friendship today issued a statement in support of the Memorandum on the Nuclear issue issued by the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea on the 21st of April 2010.
UK KFA strongly supports the memorandum of the DPRK Foreign Ministry.
It is the US that has caused the 'nuclear issue' on the Korean peninsula. The US is the largest possesor of nuclear weapons in the world and the only power to have actually used nuclear weapons. The US imperialists in total violation of the Korean Armstice Agreement of July 1953 shipped large quantities of nuclear weapons to south Korea making it a nuclear powderkeg. It also drew up plans on several occasion such as during the Korean War and also at the time of the 1976 Panmumjom incident to mount a tactical nuclear first strike against the DPRK.The US under the Bush administration designated the DPRK a target of a preempitve nuclear strike.
Given this it was only just that the DPRK should develop its own nuclear deterrent as independence and socialism cannot be defended by bare hands or by talking about 'peaceful co-existence'.Moreover it was a correct measure to defend its sovereignity that the DPRK withdrew from the one sided and unjust 'NPT' in 2003.
We support the just stand of the DPRK for the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula. This can only come about when the US signs a peace treaty with the DPRK.This would be a very big step forward in reducing tension on the Korean peninsula. The DPRK has the right to be treated as an equal partner in any negotiations whether they are bilateral or multi lateral. The US needs to recognise the reality that the DPRK is a nuclear power.
.The US must remove its nuclear weapons from Korea at once.It must take steps to remove the nuclear threat to the DPRK in a transperent and verfiable manner. The US should also withdraw its troops from the south of Korea.
The UK Korean Friendship Association supports the DPRK's invariable stand for peace and denuclearisation.
