The ASSPUK and JISGE together with UK KFA issued the following joint statement denouncing the horrendous repressive action of the Japanese authorities against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan.(CHONGRYON) This involved searching the offices of the Korean Scientists and Technologists Association and the Korean Amateur Athletes Federation in Japan in the Korean Publishing Hall in Tokyo on Feb. 28 on charges of violation of "law on management of foreign exchange." They even mobilised armed police and riot police
CHONGRYON is a dignified overseas compatriots organisation of Korean residents. The action of the Japanese authorities is clearly institutionally racist and bordering on fascism. This is also a manifestation of the hostile policy of the Japan towards the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as CHONGRYON acts as the de facto embassy of the DPRK in Japan. Thus it is an unwarranted action and a serious affront both to the dignity of the DPRK as well Korean residents in Japan. It is gross interference in the affairs of the DPRK .
These actions by the Japanese authorities show that they are not committed to human rights and ill treat racial minorities within their borders.
ASSPUK, JISGE and UK KFA demand that the Japanese authorities cease their repressive actions against CHONGRYON and revoke their hostile policy towards the DPRK . We express full solidarity with CHONGRYON.
