The 8th Congress of the Workers Party of Korea has been successfully held in Pyongyang, the capital of the Korean revolution from the 5th of January to the 12th of January.
The Congress of the WPK was held at a time when the imperialist world was suffering from the catastrophe of Covid 19 . Many countries are in a state of lock-down with all real life political events being cancelled and only online events (such as this one ) are held . Yet People’s Korea was able to hold a major political event namely the congress of its ruling party the Workers Party of Korea. This is because People’s Korea is the only country in the world without Covid 19 thanks to the decisive and resolute counter-measures taken by the DPRK government.
The Congress was held in an atmosphere of unity and cohesion which starkly contrasted with the violence and chaos that broke out in Washington , US on the 6th of January which I believe is indicative of the profound systemic crisis of US imperialism . It should be pointed out that the WPK was not held under ideal conditions but amidst the harsh and draconian sanctions imposed on the DPRK by the US and its vassal states .
The Congress of the WPK was attended by a total of 4750 delegates meaning it was larger than the 7th Congress of the WPK in 2016. In fact the WPK Congress is actually slightly bigger than the 28th Congress of the old CPSU which had 4,500 delegates approximately. It should be remembered that the Workers Party of Korea is a party embracing people from all walks of life in the DPRK from cleaners to government ministers and generals . It is also a party of millions of members , most families in the DPRK will have at least one member of the Workers Party of Korea.
Of the delegates to the Congress 1,455 delegates were manual workers and farmers . 10 percent of the delegates were women .
The Congress elected a new leadership and also revised the rules of the Party . The Congress adopted the following slogans and watchwords for the work of the Party over the coming years ; "Believing in the people as in heaven', "Single hearted unity ' and 'self-reliance '
Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN was elected General Secretary of the Workers Party of Korea . The election as general secretary of the Workers Party of Korea (WPK) which is a powerful and meaningful demonstration of the single-hearted unity of the people around the Party and leader . It is also a manifestation of the trust of the Korean people and members of the WPK and their support for and confidence in Marshal KIM JONG UN . It is a reflection of the unanimous will of the Korean people to hold respected Marshal KIM JONG UN in high esteem.
Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN has achieved great successes in leading the Korean revolution and the building of Juche-based socialism . For example People's Korea has Zero Covid 19 . Last year when the country was affected by floods and typhoons , respected Marshal KIM JONG UN saw to it that new homes to replace the damaged ones were built as quickly as possible and given to people free of charge .Although the DPRK has faced the toughest ever and most brutal sanctions by the US led hostile forces has carried on with socialist construction .
Moreover, Marshal KIM JONG UN has firmly defended the independence of People's Korea by strengthening the revolutionary armed forces and turning the country into a socialist nuclear power of Juche . People's Korea is an iron fortress of socialism in the world . Marshal KIM JONG UN was able to also defend the independence of People's Korea at the negotiating table and made no concession on the fundamental interests of the country. The election of Marshal KIM JONG UN as General Secretary of the WPK will greatly strengthen and consolidate the Korean revolution.
Marshal KIM JONG UN gave a report of work to Congress as well as his opening , concluding and closing speeches.
The speech in which he gave the report of work to the Congress lasted some 9 hours . It was a very detailed and comprehensive report to the Congress which highlighted the great successes of the years since the 7th Congress of the WPK in 2016 but at the same time expressed honest criticisms of shortcomings that have occurred and put forward ways of rectifying and remedying these shortcomings. The mainstream media made a lot of the reference to some shortfalls in meeting the goals of the economic plan . However these remarks were taken out of context and distorted by the mainstream media . In fact Marshal KIM JONG UN stressed that “The greatest of such successes is that the backbone of the self-supporting national economy, the socialist economy, which is the material basis of the existence and lifeline of our own style of socialism, was maintained and its arteries were preserved.”
The fact overlooked by the mainstream media is that the Party congress was held not as an exercise of self-congratulation but to look at the stage where the Korean revolution is at and map out policies for development in the future .
Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN's report showed that the WPK has no illusions about imperialism . He correctly pointed out that the Party in its international work should "wage offensive diplomacy to smash the attempts of the hostile forces to violate our sovereignty and defend our state's rights to normal development.
It should orient external political activities with the main emphasis put on prevailing over and subjugating the US, the fundamental obstacle to the development of our revolution and our principal enemy."
The DPRK will adopt an adroit strategy towards the US and expand solidarity with the anti-imperialist independent forces of the word.
At the same time Marshal KIM JONG UN called for the national defence forces of the DPRK to be put onto a higher level. Basically the DPRK’s nuclear deterrent is here to stay whether the USA likes it or not.
This approach does not preclude the possibility of negotiations and a peaceful solution to the issues of the Korean peninsula . It was stressed in the report of work that the DPRK will return goodwill for goodwill and strength with strength . Moreover as a responsible nuclear weapons state the DPRK will not misuse nuclear weapons , the DPRK’s nuclear deterrent is essentially defensive.
Similarly Marshal KIM JONG UN addressed the issue of inter-Korean relations and Korean reunification criticising the two-faced and double dealing attitude of the south Korean authorities who have talked a lot about peace and reunification and even held summits with the DPRK but at the same time have carried out military exercises with the US and also greatly increased military spending . The DPRK will not make unilateral moves or gestures , south Korea has to take the correct steps first .
The Congress dealt a blow to those who wanted to see People's Korea 'open up ' and reform ' . Instead self-reliance will be the main basis of economic strategy . The DPRK will further reduce imports . Marshal
KIM JONG UN said ‘The main seed and theme of the plan are, as always, self-reliance and self-sufficiency.
From the requirements of our developing revolution and from the urgent requirements of socialist construction, self-reliance during the period of the new long-term plan should develop into nationwide, planned and scientific self-reliance.’
The leading role and control of the state in the commercial sector will be increased. Commercial service activities should be people-orientated and socialist in nature.
Respected Marshal KIM JONG UN stressed that 'The independent, planned and people-oriented characters of the national economy should be strengthened. To this end, it is necessary to raise the functions of the state that organizes economic affairs, and ensure unified management of products on the principle of making sure that the fruition of the economic activities is channelled into promoting the well-being of the people."
At the same time there will be actions to fully eliminate anti-socialist and non-socialist practices from all walks and the socialist lifestyle of the Korean people will be maintained.
Under the programme unveiled at the 8th Congress of the WPK people's living standards will be improved. More housing will be built . A target of building 10,000 homes per year in Pyongyang was set and also to build more homes elsewhere in the country . Efforts will be put into improving conditions in rural areas and bring up to the standard of urban areas.
Also public transport and public health will be further improved. The Pyongyang Metro is to be upgraded and improved . It was announced that the production of trams , trains , trolleybuses and buses would be stepped up .Ironically Lankov one of the NKNews gang claimed that the DPRK was going to scrap trolleybuses ,NKNews wrong yet again !
In general studying the summary of the report of work to the 8th Congress given by respected Marshal KIM JONG UN and also the closing and concluding speeches I was impressed by the profoundness of them . In my view they showed a lot of depth and maturity but at the same time are revolutionary and militant.
There is no doubt that the 8th Congress of the Workers ' Party of Korea will be the springboard for a new leap forward in building Juche -based socialism.
. The Korean people can look forward to a happier and prosperous life under the people-first policies of the Workers’ Party of Korea led by great Marshal KIM JONG UN .
Moreover the 8th Congress of the Workers Party of Korea will greatly inspire the revolutionary peoples of the world .
To conclude our duty in the UK KFA and British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea should be to unfold a big publicity campaign about the 8th Congress of the WPK and at the same time massively increase solidarity with People’s Korea .
