Changsong county and its place in history

Today is the 50th anniversary of the Changsong county joint conference in the DPRK . Changsong county in the northern part of the DPRK led the way in developing local industry. Some people mistakenly think that the DPRK has a highly centralised economic structure like that of the socialist countries in the 1950s. In fact it was centrally controlled and planned industries but with locally run industries alongside them. Leader Kim Jong Il stressed the importance of the county . President Kim Il Sung taught the people of Changsong county to turn previously barren mountains into areas of prosperity by developing locally controlled industries which would use local resources and turn them to good account.
