The Road of Korea

The international community is now focusing its attention on the DPRK after the death of its leader Kim Jong Il–where will it be headed? And as if in answer to it, the DPRK declares that it will follow to the last the road of independence, the road of Songun and the road of socialism pioneered by President Kim Il Sung, the founding father of socialist Korea, and carried forward by Kim Jong Il.This country will never abandon the road of independence.
Former US President Jimmy Carter who visited Korea twice commented that it was a very peculiar society which held fast to the philosophy of independence as its creed. The Juche idea that was authored by Kim Il Sung and developed and enriched by Kim Jong Il is known worldwide as the philosophy of independence.
The modern history of Korea which has developed with the Juche idea as its guiding ideology is run through with the struggle for independence. It has constantly adhered to the line of independence in politics, self-sufficiency in the economy and self-reliance in national defence and the ideal of independence, friendship and peace in external relations.
The stand and attitude the DPRK Government assumed in its confrontation with the United States in recent years give a glimpse into its attaching great importance to independence. In January 2003 the DPRK Government lifted the moratorium on its withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) which it had suspended the effectuation for a decade. Afterwards it conducted its first nuclear test in October 2006 and the second in May 2009. Those were the fair self-defensive countermeasures it should take to defend its supreme national interests against the uninterrupted nuclear threats of the US. For all that, though, the United Nations Security Council passed at its sessions resolutions on sanctions against the DPRK. At that time the DPRK Government disclosed that the UNSC had been overwhelmed by the high-handedness of the US and demanded it renounce its resolutions. It was a bold decision the DPRK made not only to defend its national sovereignty but also to make a breach in the present international order where dominationist and arbitrary manner is prevalent and to champion the international relations based on independence.
An American professor said that no country could rival north Korea in the aspiration after independence and the spirit of self-sacrifice for its realization.
The Korean people cherish it as their firm faith that independence is a truth and the truth is sure to triumph. Cuban magazine Bohemia wrote that the Korean people would advance under the unfurled banner of independence in an article headlined The DPRK Follows Its Road As Ever. It is evident that Korea will steadfastly advance along the road of Songun. The Korean revolution was pioneered and has advanced by dint of arms. Korean revolutionaries crowned with victory the 15-year-long armed struggle for liberating their country from the Japanese military occupation (1905-1945). The DPRK, though it was less than two years since its founding, repelled the armed invasion of the US, which had been boasting of being the strongest in the world, in the Korean war (1950-1953) and safeguarded its sovereignty and dignity. These write an especially brilliant chapter in the modern history of Korea. In the ensuing days, too, in order to cope with the persistent military threats and challenges of the US, the DPRK continued to direct its big efforts to building up the military capabilities in accordance with the line of carrying out its economic and defence construction simultaneously.

At the end of the last century it held higher the banner of Songun in the worst adversity when the imperialist allied forces focused their anti-socialist offensive on it, availing themselves of the collapse of socialism in several countries. Kim Jong Il formulated Songun politics as the basic political mode of socialism and consolidated the national military power into the invincible one. Under his Songun leadership, the Korean People’s Army has developed into the strong army, which is matchless in ideology and faith and capable of both defence and attack. Korea has also acquired such a strong war deterrent that no one dares to attack. Along with the preparedness of its regular armed forces, it also has enhanced the combat efficiency of its paramilitary forces to a high degree and materialized the arming of all the people and fortifying of the whole country on a top level.
That Korea will remain unchanged on the road of Songun is demonstrated more clearly when its supreme leader Kim Jong Un inspected the KPA Seoul Ryu Kyong Su 105 Guards Tank Division on New Year’s Day. The AP and other foreign media gave a wide coverage to the news, underlining that the new leader of this country gave a clear message that he would maintain the Songun politics of the late NDC Chairman Kim Jong Il. Korea will follow the road of socialism to the last.
Even when the US-led imperialist forces, taking advantage of the collapse of socialism and the restoration of capitalism, boisterously advocated the “end of socialism,” Korea held up the unfurled banner of socialism. The people around the world admired the indomitable vitality of the Korean-style socialism and paid high respect to Korea invariably defending socialism.
The Korean people deserve the admiration and respect from the international society for their steadfastness in socialism, the long-cherished desire and ideal of mankind. Korea is a people-oriented socialist state where people are the masters of everything and everything serves them. People of all social standings, be they workers, peasants and intellectuals, are leading a worthwhile life as masters of the state and society. All the members of society are enjoying all kinds of rights as befits social beings, including political freedom and rights, and rights of labour and rest. They are enjoying the benefits of free education and free medical care, living without hearing the word “tax”, and leading the cultured life as the creators and enjoyers of the art and literature. The slogan “One for all and all for one!” has been materialized here so that all the people help and lead forward one another, the whole society forming a great harmonious family. The US religious leader Billy Graham said that it is in Korea that God from heaven has nothing to do. Such a people’s country, people’s paradise, was established by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. It is quite natural, therefore, that the Korean people will advance along the road of independence, the road of Songun, and the road of socialism to the end under the leadership of their supreme leader  Kim Jong Un who is identical with Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in ideology, leadership and virtues.
