The Sun illuminates the road of Korea ’s Reunification
We, the friends of Korea in Britain , are to significantly celebrate the 8th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration, a great banner of Korea ’s reunification.
Today the Korean nation is adorning the annals of independent reunification under the rays of the great sun of reunification.
The Korean Peninsula which has been fraught with distrust and confrontation( due to
the intervention of outside forces)for more than 60 years could usher in the June 15 reunification era thanks to the outstanding and seasoned guidance of leader Kim Jong Il who arranged the Pyongyang summit meeting for the first time in over half a century-long history of national division, provided the Korean nation which entered a new century with firm faith of national independence and led the entire nation to unite and vigorously advance toward the independent reunification under the banner of “By our nation itself”.
Indeed, Kim Jong Il is the great leader and the sun of reunification, who opened up the June 15 reunification era and victoriously leads the grand advance of all compatriots for national reconciliation and unity and the realization of the cause of national reunification at an early date.
In order to hold its destiny in its hand and hew it out independently a nation should have the center of national unity, a great leader, who integrates the willingness and demands of the nation into one to present the correct idea and lines and rally the whole members of the nation and lead them to the struggle to implement them.
Great leader Kim Jong Il is the center of the great national unity and the sun of the nation, who unites the entire Korean nation in the north, south and overseas by materializing the idea of great national unity set forth by President Kim Il Sung, and wisely leads the cause of independent reunification of Korea .
Kim Jong Il is the peerless thinker and theoretician who provided the program of reunification by the great national unity.
Leader Kim Jong Il who developed and enriched the immortal Juche idea fathered by great President Kim Il Sung into the guiding idea in the independent era at an early age conducted untiring ideo-theoretical activities to provide the grand program of the national reunification, the guideline for the entire nation, upholding the President’s behest of reunification even after his demise.
On August 4, 1997, just after the three year memorial service for the President, Kim Jong Il published the immortal classic work “Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions For National Reunification” to newly define the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point program of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, put forth by the fatherly President, as the three mainstays, three charters for national reunification.
The three charters formulated by Kim Jong Il was an ideological and spiritual power to have the Korean nation wage the struggle for national reunification in a successful manner with the obvious goal and direction by dint of concerted efforts of the nation.
After that Kim Jong Il made public another classic work “Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation”. He set forth in the work the five-point policy for the great national unity which would serve to arouse the entire Korean nation to the national reconciliation and unity.
Thus, leader Kim Jong Il set forth the three charters for national reunification and the five-point policy for the great national unity, the fairest and greatest program of the national reunification, through his energetic ideo-theoretical activities so as to provide a powerful ideo-theoretical weapon to expand and develop the Korean nation’s reunification movement onto a new high stage.
On the basis of such activities leader Kim Jong Il arranged the historic Pyongyang summit meeting in June 2000 and ensured that the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, a landmark for national reunification enabling the settlement of the Korean reunification problem by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation in an independent way, was adopted, thus opened up the June 15 reunification era, a new era of “By our nation itself”.
Kim Jong Il is the outstanding leader who wisely leads the struggle to realize the cause of Korea ’s reunification.
He opened and defended the June 15 independent reunification era by pursuing the great Songun politics.
Thanks to the great Songun politics two summit meetings were held in Pyongyang and the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration were adopted in the period when the outsiders’ moves of confrontation and war were extremely pronounced.
But for the Songun politics the Korean nation would be engulfed in the vortex of confrontation and war and even unable to sustain its existence, to say nothing of the vibrant reality of the independent reunification era.
Really, the Songun politics is the lifeline for the Korean nation and solid guarantee of the reunification.
In retrospect, the US imperialists and the anti-reunification forces in south Korea challenged the historic June 15 joint declaration from the outset and impeded its implementation in every step.
Each time in such situation Kim Jong Il took the initiative and active measures to successfully frustrate the challenges and obstructive moves of the anti-reunification forces and dynamically arouse the entire nation to the struggle for implementing the June 15 joint declaration.
Kim Jong Il sent the north Korean personages and delegations to south Korea in September 2000, October 2002, June 2004, August 2005 and on several other occasions to satisfactorily solve the problems arising in implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the development of inter-Korean relations and those related to the economic and military domains.
He received for long hours the presidential envoy and his party of south Korea , who came to Pyongyang in April 2004 when the inter-Korean relations faced a crisis owing to the aggravated showdown and tension by the anti-DPRK nuclear racket of the US , and led them to tide over the crisis by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation.
And in June 2005 Kim Jong Il met with the south Korean presidential envoy, his party and those concerned to the Pyongyang summit meeting of 2000, who came to Pyongyang to participate in the grand national reunification festival in celebration of the 5th publication anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration, and clarified in detail the principled issues and ways arising in advancing the inter-Korean relations and realizing the independent reunification of the country, thus opened up a fresh avenue for Korea’s reunification.
In October 2007 Kim Jong Il arranged the Pyongyang summit meeting with the then south Korean president and wisely led the efforts to adopt the “Declaration on the Development of North-South Relations and for Peace and Prosperity”, ensuring that the Korean nation could conduct dynamic advance toward prosperity, peace and reunification on a higher stage.
Indeed, thanks to the experienced leadership of Kim Jong Il for Korea ’s reunification, the June 15 reunification cause could continue the victorious advance in accordance with the aspiration and wish of the Korean nation despite the obstructive moves of the anti-reunification forces at home and abroad.
Great leader Kim Jong Il is the benevolent father of the Korean nation who embraces all the compatriots and leads them to the realization of the independent reunification cause with boundless generosity and magnanimity.
Kim Jong Il’s ardent love of the country and nation, all-embracing politics and benevolent politics pursued throughout the nation are the very source of power rallying all the Koreans firmly under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and powerfully encouraging them to the independent reunification movement.
With boundless generosity, magnanimity and warm love of compatriots Kim Jong Il received many delegations and personages from south Korea , who visited Pyongyang , though busy he was in providing the Songun revolutionary leadership.
When he met with the delegates of the south Korean media organizations for more than 3 hours in Pyongyang in August 2000 Kim Jong Il listened to their unreserved questions and clearly answered to them with his extraordinary political ability, rich knowledge and witty humor and expressed his big confidence and expectation that the mass media organs and agencies in the north and the south of Korea should discharge their duty and responsibility for the sake of the country and the nation.
And on his way of field guidance to the northern part of the country he received the chief delegate of south Korea who came to Pyongyang to participate in the 2nd north-south ministerial talks in September 2000, gave him valuable teachings in regard to improving the inter-Korean relations and implementing the joint declaration and solved all issues he raised.
Kim Jong Il, just identical to great President Kim Il Sung who devoted his whole life to the prosperity of the nation and the happiness of the people regarding “the People are My God” as his motto, treats with magnanimity anyone who is engaged in reunification efforts with patriotic conscience, regardless of his idea, religious belief, being capitalist or army general, though he committed crime before the nation in the past, but repented of his crime and sided with the nation.
Kim Jong Il embraced personages and compatriots from different social strata and led them to glorify their genuine life on the road of reunification and patriotism.

On the harvest festival in September 2000 Kim Jong Il sent the famous earliest mushrooms of Mt. Chilbo as gift to the members of the south Korean delegation whom he met in the 2000 summit meeting, members of the media organizations who visited Pyongyang afterward and the representatives of the south Korean ruling and opposition parties, and in October 2002 he sent the mushrooms, speciality of Mt Myohyang, matchless scenery in the world, to them again.
He presented mushrooms of Mt. Chilbo to the south Korean president and members of his delegation when they were returning home in October 2007.
Kim Jong Il paid greater attention than anyone else to the health of the south Korean personages who contributed to the sacred cause of the national reunification. When he heard that former south Korean president Kim Dae Jung was hospitalized for his deteriorated health condition he ensured that a delegation of north Korea visited his hospital to express his concern for him, to cite one of the stories.
And when the grand gymnastic and artistic performance “Arirang” was produced he ensured that an exclusive air route was opened for the plane so that the people from different social standings in south Korea could come to Pyongyang and see it to their heart’s content.
The south Korean people highly praise Kim Jong Il with 125 honorific titles such as “a man with the firm outlook of reunification based on By our nation itself”, “a man possessed of a new feature prioritizing the nation”, “a leader of big caliber”, “a man representing the nation’s expectation”, “the greatest leader in the world”, “the highest incarnation of love for the nation”, “the lodestar and the sun of the reunification”, “the great sun of the 21st century”, etc.
Indeed, Kim Jong Il is the sacred sun of Korea ’s reunification, who unites all the compatriots and leads them to the road of independent reunification with the great idea of reunification, prominent leadership ability and noble virtue.
Thanks to leader Kim Jong Il a great heyday of Korea ’s reunification is opened and the dawn of a reunified thriving nation is broken.
Rejoicing over the reality in Korea the progressive organizations and people in different countries including the UK extend positive support and ardent solidarity to the advance of the June 15 reunification era in Korea .
They strongly demanded the withdrawal of the US imperialist forces, a cancer to Korea ’s reunification, from south Korea , dynamically conducted international movement against the US policy consistent with aggression and war moves against the DPRK, and rejected the divisionist moves of the anti-reunification conservative elements in south Korea .
But, now the developing situation in south Korea triggers an extreme concern to the conscience of the humankind over the world.
Theses days the Lee Myong Bak gentries get more pronounced in pro-US sycophancy and anti-DPRK confrontation moves and directly challenge the trend of the independent reunification era.
They are hell-bent on demolishing every achievements made between the north and the south after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and are frenzied in war exercises against north Korea to do harm to the fellow countrymen.
They are also committing wholesale crackdown on the progressive pro-reunification forces in a bid to quell the south Korean people's spirit for reunification with the north and stir up the confrontation sentiment against the DPRK among them.
Owing to the desperate moves of the reactionary Lee Myong Bak gentries the inter-Korean relations are frozen and peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula are wrecked, thus creating a very dangerous situation in which an irrevocable catastrophe could be entailed.
We, the Association for the Study of the Songun Politics in the UK and other progressive organizations and people are bitterly denounce again the Lee Myong Bak group’s pro-US sycophantic and treacherous acts against the nation and reunification of Korea.
Though dark clouds hang over the Korean Peninsula they can never eclipse the rays of the sun.
As far as there are the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il, the bright sun of Korea ’s reunification, and the Songun politics, a treasured sword of the Korean nation and the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, milestones for Korea ’s reunification, the victory of the cause of the Korean nation’s independent reunification will certainly come true.
We, the British friends will cast in their lot with the just Korean people on the road of opening up the June 15 reunification era.
