Press Statement of DPRK Permanent Mission to UN

Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- The Permanent Mission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to the United Nations Friday issued the press statement with regard to reckless remarks made by the UN secretary-general against the DPRK at a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Abe held in Japan recently.

The statement said:

As witnessed by everybody, the UN secretary-general, at the joint press conference with the Japanese prime minister on August 8 during his visit to Japan, has made reckless remarks saying that "the DPRK can be a normal member of the international community in this region through total denuclearization that is verifiable, irreversible".

It is astonishing to hear what the secretary-general has talked in obscurity at the time when the world supports and welcomes the historic DPRK-U.S. Summit and the Joint Statement in Singapore.

The chief executive of the United Nations cooked up and articulated on qualification of "normal member" which is not even stipulated in the UN Charter, and it is doubtful if he has capacity to correctly look at things.

If he is the secretary-general of the United Nations, he should do what is useful to the current development of situation on the Korean peninsula towards peace and stability, instead of wasting time singing chorus in support of sanctions to please a certain country without his own independent view that does not suit his position. -0-
