The film depicts the lives of different families living in a block of flats . People are excited when a new family consisting of a famous singer and her engineer husband and little move in . However soon the new family become a source of concern for the community . The engineer husband works hard to develop a new process that will eliminate the need for imports of nickel but it means that he has little time for his wife and son leading to conflict which is symbolised by a ceramic vase smashing and the wife walking out .
The people’s neighbourhood unit help to calm things down . Meanwhile some neighbours gain a better understanding of the important work for the country that the engineer is doing.
The family concludes with a happy ending ; the couple reconcile , other neighbours realise their judgements were hasty and the new self-reliant work process is created .
