Yang Soong-tae in custody

Yang Soong-tae in custody

On Jan. 24, Yang Soong-tae, former president of the Supreme Court, who has been buffeted by criticism of all circles, was brought into custody.
He was the head of the Ministry of Justice, who was placed under arrest as a suspect for the first time in 71-year long history of the Ministry of Justice.
He is under suspicion of forty crimes during his six-year tenure of presidency of the Supreme Court from September of 2011.
Broad segments of south Korean people have strongly demanded a thorough investigation into Yang from last year when his judicial scandal came to light.
However, the conservative forces including the opposition Liberty Korea Party are bent on covering his crime, saying his arrest is most shameful and miserable in history.
On the very day of Yang’s arrest, the Party for Democracy and Peace said that it is punishment by the people and stressed that it hopes the Ministry of Justice to be the one respected by the people.
It is quite natural that Yang deserves a severe punishment.
