The ASSPUK,JISGE and UK KFA today issued the following joint statement in connection with the ordinance on enforcing 12 year universal compulsory education issued by the 6th session of the 12 Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK.
On hearing the news that 12 year compulsory education is to be introduced in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea  we feel great excitement. The DPRK is the only country in the world to introduce 12 year compulsory education free of charge. This measure puts the DPRK ahead of the so-called advanced capitalist countries . The DPRK is increasing public expenditure including educational spending at a time when the capitalist countries such as the UK are mired in " austerity " and are cutting public spending. It will give the children and young people of the DPRK even greater opportunities to fully develop their talents and creative abilities. This is such a contrast to the capitalist countries in which a generation of young people are having their lives blighted and many young people are "neither in employment ,education or training".
Such a bold and progressive measure as extending school education by 1 year is possible only in the DPRK where the Juche idea has made the people masters of everything and genuine people-orientated policies are being pursued under the wise leadership of dear respected Marshal KIM JONG UN a true people's leader in every sense of the word.

The enforcement of 12 year compulsory education  in the DPRK is fully consistent with the demands of the knowledge based economy and the IT era. It will create a springboard for a great leap forward to a great thriving socialist
country that will be the envy of the people of the world.
