2014 marks the 3rd
anniversary of the demise of General
Kim Jong IL and the Asia Pacific
Commemoration Committee has launched a world appeal for all Korean
Solidarity, Friendship and progressive organisations to ceremoniously
commemorate this significant date.
In 1964 General Kim Jong IL commenced his duties and
activities as a member of the Central Committee of the Workers Party
of Korea. During this historical period his work on the Central
Committee gave all the Korean people great inspiration and confidence
in their mission of building, developing and consolidating a powerful
and prosperous socialist nation.
In the early 1960s and as a fundamental feature of his
work on the Central Committee President Kim Il Sung saw the
inheritance and continuation of Songun revolutionary leadership as
being fundamental to the revolutionary cause and assigned General Kim
Jong IL with the task of developing a dialectical connection between
the activities of the Korean People’s Army and the Workers Party of
Korea. This was the beginning of the Songun revolutionary leadership
of General Kim Jong IL when he visited the Seoul 105th
Tank Division of the KPA on August 25th
1960 which is now a national holiday in the DPRK and was the first of
Kim Jong ILs many visits to various KPA installations.
In the 1970s and 80s he concluded that as a fundamental
task of army building, the KPA must become an army of the leader and
of the party and it was essential for it to be strengthened
politically, ideologically as well as technically and military..
At the first session of the 10th
Supremes People Assembly in September 1998 a new system of state
mechanism was introduced with the National Defence Commission being
elevated to the leading body that the Songun politics of the party is
the main political mode of socialism which began in the era of
President Kim IL Sung.
In recognition of the brilliant work and Songun
leadership of General Kim Jong IL, Marshal Kim Jong Un when speaking
to the WPK organ Rodong Sinmun and the KPA organ Joson Inmingun to
mark the Day of Sungun on August 25th
2013 commented
“Kim Jong Il's visit to Seoul Ryu Su Guards 105th
Tank Division of the KPA on August 25th
1960 was an historic event that proclaimed his succession of the
cause of the Songun revolution and the start of his Songun – based
leadership. Songun was his revolutionary idea, his practise in the
revolution, his political ideal and his political mode.”
In recognition of the great contribution that General
Kim Jong IL has made to the world revolutionary movement and his
revolutionary spirit that fortifies the Korean people. Let us all
commemorate the heroic revolutionary exploits of General Kim Jong Il
in such a manner that his great name lives on forever.
