Our-State-First Principle—Spiritual Mainstay
of Korean People
Today, the Korean people are opening a new phase in the building of a socialist power with a sure guarantee for achieving peace and prosperity. The principle of our state first serves as their spiritual mainstay in this struggle.
The principle of our state first is the pride and self-confidence in the greatness of the socialist country.
It is a noble ideological feeling peculiar to the Korean people who have achieved a great victory and eye-opening successes in the drive to build a prosperous country by displaying their creative wisdom and launching heroic struggle.
The DPRK is a country which guarantees the position and role of the popular masses as the masters of the state and society by law and embodies the idea of believing in people as in heaven and the most advantageous people-oriented policies, and a country of single-hearted unity where the ideological oneness of the whole society has been achieved and all its people are firmly rallied behind the leader.
Even in the face of constant war threats, blockade and temptation, the Korean people have built a powerful, independent national economy and self-reliant defence capabilities by displaying the spirit of self-reliance and self-development.
The powerful political system of the state is being carried forward without partiality, which guarantees the steady progress and bright future of the DPRK.
The thoroughgoing spirit of serving the people, the unitary character of ideology, steadfast independence and consistent inheritance are the features peculiar to the DPRK, and herein lies the secret of its powerful national strength.
Through the events to celebrate the 70th founding anniversary of the DPRK held last year, the Korean people fully demonstrated the might of their country, which achieved the ideological oneness of the whole society and the single-hearted unity of the Party and the people and which possesses a reliable self-supporting economy and self-reliant defence capabilities, before the eyes of the world.
The principle of our state first is the ardent will to put the overall national strength on the highest level.
Consolidating the national strength is a matter vital the existence and development of a state.
It is not easy to carry out the core tasks for building a prosperous and independent country, but what is not easier is to safeguard and keep developing the great gains so as to add eternal lustre to them through generations.
It is none other than the masses of the people that constitute the motive force and are responsible for building a thriving country. Their full awareness and will to steadily build up the overall national strength and put it on the highest level serve as the powerful politico-ideological strength in promoting the advance and leap forward of socialism.
Regarding the state affairs as more valuable than their family affairs, the Korean people are now devoting themselves to the struggle for their country’s development and prosperity. Thanks to the heroic struggle of the people who, fully aware of their historic mission, turned out for carrying out the Party’s new strategic line and other policies, the foundations of the self-supporting economy were further consolidated, a revolutionary turn was brought about in science and education and the advanced level of Juche-oriented art and its peculiar features and advantages were fully demonstrated last year. Without resting on their laurels, they are pushing ahead with the grand march of self-reliance from the outset of the new year. Their fighting mettle is the expression of a high sense of revolutionary consciousness and strong will to achieve the final victory of the cause of building a socialist power. Such consciousness and will are reflected in the our-state-first principle.
The principle of our state first has nothing to do with the extreme national egotism aimed at establishing an international order for one’s own country, looking down upon other countries and nations and rejecting them. The DPRK is the country which respects not only its independent prestige and interests but also other countries’ sovereignty and interests.
Cherishing the principle as an element of their faith, no matter how the situation and circumstances may change, and a patriotic desire for developing their homeland by their own efforts before the eyes of the world, the precious land of socialism which they have defended from generation to generation, the Korean people are now stepping up the socialist economic construction.
