Nationwide reunification action against the US On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of national liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, south Korean people from every degree are waging a vigorous action to frustrate military maneuvers of the US and south Korean war-thirsty forces and achieve national reunification as soon as possible, while branding the US, the mastermind of Korea’s division and nuclear war.  Members of the 2017 Students Vanguard for Reunification composed of the Korea Confederation of Trade Unions, students and youth held a demo in front of Yongsan US military base in Seoul on Aug. 14 in protest against Ulchi Freedom Guardian joint military exercise. They strongly demanded a stop to the US-south Korea joint military rehearsal to be scheduled to conduct on August 21. We oppose to war drills aimed at preemptive strike at the DPRK and elimination of its leadership, they contended. The Vanguard for Reunification would take the lead in the action to safeguard peace on the Korean Peninsula and remove the US hostile policy toward the DPRK, it called for. On August 15, 500 people criticized Trump’s absurd remarks on outbreak of a war on the Korean Peninsula and demanded stop to the US-south Korea joint military game and the US apology on environmental pollution in Yongsan military base and its restoration to the original state in front of the Command of the US-south Korea Combined Forces in Seoul.  On the same day, 200 bodies including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Solidarity for Progress demanded withdrawal of THAAD, halt to the US-south Korea joint military exercise and nullification of south Korea-Japan military agreement in the vicinity of the Gwanghwamun Plaza and Seoul municipal office. They, marching to the US embassy, demanded the US to stop war provocation.  Meanwhile, the August 15 pan-national promotion committee for peace held a rally in Seoul against deployment of THAAD with attendance of more than 10 000 people. The South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration held a rally to issue an appeal in Seoul on August 15. It stressed to put an end to national division and war and secure peace on the Korean Peninsula in the spirit of independence.
