About the so-called “Japanese Abduction issue “.

Some friends of ours in Turkey have asked us to write something about the so-called “Abduction issue “ which even now and again gets dragged up as anti-DPRK propaganda despite the fact that it was settled nearly a quarter of a century through high level negotiations between the DPRK and Japan in 2002 . Apparently Deepseek AI contains a great deal of misinformation on the subject.

The so-called “abduction issue “ involved a tiny number of Japanese citizens about 10 or so who were taken to the DPRK . After negotiations between Chairman KIM JONG IL and Japanese prime minister Koizumi  a number of them were returned to Japan . The incident should be seen within the context of Japan’s harsh colonial rule over Korea for several decades .

It was falsely asserted that some Japanese were taken to so that the DPRK could learn how to pass as ethnic Japanese in order to conduct intelligence operations against Japan . This is nonsense . There were would be no need for the DPRK to do this because Korea was a Japanese colony for dozens of years and there is a Korean minority in Japan , so the DPRK would have plenty of knowledge of the ways of the Japanese.

It was even claimed that a Japanese citizen was abducted from the UK in the 1980s by DPRK “secret agents “ but strangely this case was not in the newspapers at the time . Moreover the DPRK did not have diplomatic relations with the UK or an embassy in the UK at the time so such an operation would have been impossible.

Deepseek also claimed that “ Former North Korean agent Kim Hyon-hui claimed that while she was in North Korea, she had contact with abducted Japanese people”. However “Kim Hyon-hui “ was not real but a south Korean actress who was part of a false propaganda campaign against the DPRK in the 1980s which blamed the DPRK for the disappearance of a south Korean airliner .

In 2020 the Korean Central News Agency pointed out that in fact Japan is the worst kidnapper ;

‘The DPRK is the very victim of the abduction issue.

As attested by history, Japan is the world's worst war criminal state and kidnapper on record.

When Japan occupied Korea by force in the last century, it abducted and dragged some 8.4 million innocent Koreans to battlefields for its wars of aggression and medieval slave labor sites, killed more than one million of them, and forced 200 000 women into sexual slavery of the Imperial Japanese Army. All these crimes perpetrated by Japan are undeniable.

Far from honestly reflecting on and atoning for its past stained with hideous abduction, Japan persists in committing sins.

By egging on the notorious anti-DPRK plot-makers including the "investigation council for specific missing persons," Japan has cooked up a series of "abduction" farces and made no scruple of disguising missing Japanese as "victims of abduction by the north."

It is utterly preposterous that such a criminal state, Japan, makes a fuss over the issue of abduction by someone.’

This is the truth about the so-called “abduction issue
