On the 17th of October 1926 , 100 years ago (the same year as the general strike in Britain ) President KIM IL SUNG formed the Down With Imperialism Union or TD as it was known as in the Korean language in Huadian , China , a place where many Koreans had gone to escape the barbaric colonial rule of Japanese imperialism .
The Down With Imperialism Union (DIU ) was formed in a simple building . It was the historical root of today’s Workers Party of Korea the ruling party of People’s Korea, a party with millions of members from all walks of life which is the supreme general staff of the Korean revolution .
The DIU was formed from among the young communists of the new generation . It’s members were school students and revolutionary youth . President KIM IL SUNG at the meeting to found the DIU declared that
"Irreconcilable contradictions exist between the imperialists and people in the colonies and these contradictions are sharpening with the passage of time. Because these contradictions are antagonistic they cannot be settled by any kind of 'compromise ' and will only be solved when imperialism is overthrown".
The DIU proudly proclaimed its aims were to win independence and liberation for Korea, to carry out the socialist revolution in Korea, to build socialism and communism in Korea and to carry out the world revolution. Thus for the first time in history the lines of national liberation and socialist revolution were organically combined. Moreover the relationship between the national tasks of the working class and its international tasks was affirmed. Essentially this was the Juche idea in prototype form .
The formation of the DIU was a true phoenix rising from the ashes of flunkeyism and factionalism . It was the true dawn of the Korean revolution . The DIU also broke with opportunism of the factionalists and flunkeys and also the national reformism of bourgeois nationalists.
The DIU was the first true communist revolutionary organisation in Korea .
Previously different factionalists whose base was not among the workers and peasants but among the middle class and bourgeoisie had tried to form communist parties in Korea but failed . However the DIU marked the birth of the communist movement in Korea . The great leader comrade KIM JONG IL wrote in his 1982 work “THE WORKERS’ PARTY OF KOREA IS JUCHE-TYPE REVOLUTIONARY PARTY WHICH INHERITED THE GLORIOUS TRADITION OF THE DIU” that
“With the formation of the DIU our people’s revolutionary struggle embarked on a new road of development and our Party began to strike its glorious roots.
Our Party has traversed the glorious course of struggle for over half a century since it took root with the formation of the DIU; and on this road it has scored many of the most brilliant achievements of the century, and has grown and strengthened as a powerful revolutionary party, united rock-firm and equipped with a wealth of experience.”
After the formation of the DIU the Korean communist movement and national liberation movement gained momentum . In 1930 after the historic Kalun meeting the Society For Rallying Comrades , the first party organisation in Korea and later party organisations were formed in the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army. Finally in 1945 the Workers Party of Korea(WPK) was founded by President KIM IL SUNG .
The WPK continued the traditions of DIU always upholding anti-imperialism and independence . The WPK carried out the democratic and socialist revolutions in Korea creating an advanced socialist system and a socialist paradise . At the same time the WPK upheld in the red flag of socialism even when others dropped . The DPRK and WPK have strengthened the struggle against non-socialism and at same strengthened anti-imperialist class education. Marshal KIM JONG UN once said that "illusion about the enemy just means death and any slightest illusion about the enemy may lead to the renunciation of the revolution and eventually spoil it.". The WPK is also building socialism through the line of the three revolutions; ideological ,technical and cultural , this is continuing the revolution that was started in 1926.
.At the same the DPRK is internationalist upholding the tradition of the DIU. The WPK is uniting with different communist and workers parties . In the past the DPRK has given assistance to Cuba, Vietnam , Egypt , Syria , Libya ,Zimbabwe and Russia. The DPRK’s record of proletarian internationalism is second to none, it is carrying forward the idea of the DIU on carrying out the world revolution.
