Amid the strong skepticism and criticism of the international community regarding the American invention of the Board of Peace for reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, special rapporteurs of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) denounced such an act and the relevant support as being illegal and illegitimate on March 2, claiming that such conduct runs contrary to fundamental principles governing the international law.
The rapporteurs argued that Palestinians are entitled to the inalienable right to self-determination, and thus to the right to decide on the reconstruction and future of the Gaza Strip.
Noting that Israel’s act of systematically razing more than 90% of the dwellings in Gaza falls within the category of war crime, they denounced it as a crime against humanity and genocide.
They also said that all U.N. member states must be engaged in providing the locals in Gaza with the instruments and chances to play key roles in its reconstruction and to reap benefit from it. Israel, in particular, has the primary responsibility for invading Gaza and those countries which provided assistance to Israel’s military operations should also pay a due price, the special rapporteurs stressed.
