Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- October 14, Juche 34 (1945) is a significant day when President Kim Il Sung, legendary hero of the anti-Japanese war and peerless patriot, made a speech on his triumphant return to the homeland.
That day a Pyongyang mass rally welcoming him was held at the then Pyongyang Public Playground where today's Kim Il Sung Stadium is located.
From early morning, the public playground and Moran Hill were crowded with Pyongyang citizens and other people who came from Sinuiju, Hamhung, Chongjin, Haeju and other different parts of the country.
When President Kim Il Sung appeared on the platform, the people broke into thunderous cheers of "Hurrah for General Kim Il Sung!"
In his reminiscences "With the Century", he recalled that if anyone asked him about his happiest moment in his life, he would answer that it was that moment when he got a great welcome from the people, feeling the happiness of having fought for the people who love and trust him so much.
In his historic speech "Every Effort for the Building of a New, Democratic Korea" on the day, Kim Il Sung said that it was the time for the Korean people to pool their efforts to build a new, democratic Korea, calling on the public to make contributions to nation-building with strength, knowledge and money.
When the great leader finished his speech, the venue was shaken by loud cheers again.
The then Pyongyang Minbo in an article titled "Thunderous Cheers of 400 000" noted that when heroic General Kim Il Sung, much admired and missed by the Korean people, made his great appearance, the venue seemed to be suffocated by enthusiastic cheers and almost everyone shed tears with great excitement.
The cheers on that day were an expression of the people's boundless trust in Kim Il Sung, the peerless patriot who liberated the country and opened up the way for the nation's resuscitation and prosperity, and a manifestation of their faith to dynamically advance along the road of building an independent and sovereign state indicated by him. -0-
