Oppose deployment of THAAD! On September 6, south Korean civic organizations held a press conference in front of the Blue House to demand the withdrawal of THAAD deployment, marking the first year of its deployment. THAAD is a part of weapon of the missile defense system of the US introduced by the south Korea to contain China and Russia, the civic bodies including the Action for Checking THAAD Deployment said. It would threaten peace of the Korean Peninsula and northeast Asia and spark arms race, they stated.  The north and the south agreed to totally stop all hostile acts against the other side, reconfirm the non-aggression and realize disarmament in a phased manner depending on the substantial building of military confidence between the two sides through the Panmunjeon declaration, they noted, and added that it is unconvincing the deployment of THAAD swimming against a new era of peace. On the same day, the organization for peace from six regions including the Seongju Committee for Checking THAAD Deployment held a news conference in front of the Blue House to declare the drive for peace with slogan “a new era of peace free from THAAD.” The deployment of THAAD is a retrogressive action against the new era of peace as the south and the north of Korea made public the Panmunjeom declaration, they noted, demanding the withdrawal of THAAD. After the end of the news conference, they went on a stay-in strike and one-man demonstration in front of the Blue House. The south Korean authorities should take THAAD, menacing peace and security of the Korean Peninsula and northeast Asia, out of south Korea.
